Persimmon Grove Baptist Church Falmouth Outlook Volume 14 Number 25 26 Nov 1920 Pg. 6 Col. 3 Death of Taylor LaForce Zachary Taylor LaForce, one of Harrison County's well-known citizens, died after a lingering illness at his homeon North Church Street, Friday afternoon, November 12th. Mr. LaForce, the only son of Joseph Howard and Susan Woodyard LaForce was born in Harrison county near Berry, July 22, 1847. At the age of ten years he was deprived of his mother by death, and at the outbreak of the Great Rebellion, a lad of fourteen years, he cast his lot with the Union Cause. He enlisted under Col. Landrum, then stationed at Cynthiana, and had his first experience of real war when Col. Landrum's forces were completely routed by Gen. John Morgan's men in Morgan's first fight at Cynthiana. Later he was transferred to Sherman's command and served throughout his southern Campaign, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge being among the battles in which he participated. After the close of the war, at the age of eighteen, he entered high school at Xenia, OH, from which he graduated June 26, 1868, later entering law college at Delaware, Ohio and graduated at the age of 22 years. But because of ill health he was forced to give up his law practice, and taking his physician's advice returned to the farm, at which occupation he continued until 1897, when he came to Cynthiana and in 1902 was appointed carrier on R.F.D. No. 2, serving until placed on the retired list, August 20, 1920. On March 23, 1876, he was married to Miss Frances Zuern, of Pendleton County, who survives him, with two sons, Leon Laforce of Cynthiana and Horatius LaForce, of San Francisco, Calif. and one daughter Miss Era LaForce of Cynthiana. An only sister, Mrs. D.H. LeFevre, resides in Springfield, Ohio. His eldest daughter, Anna Josphine, died February 17, 1899. In early manhood he professed Christian faith and continued a firm believer in that faith throughout his life. He was a member of the Cynthiana Baptist Church at the time of his death with which church he united in 1899. Beginning with the Revolution some of his blood kin have participated in each war of the Republic, which fact in part would probably account for his intense patriotism and love for his country. Strong in his convictions and outspoken in his opinions, his path was not always smooth, but he commnaded the respect and friendship of those who knew him best. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Felix K. Struve, at the home on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Burial at Battle Grove cemetery.
