I would like to read the whol article Here is the complete article as it appeared in the Falmouth Outlook. Birthday anniversaries come but once a year, and can not be too richly enjoyed when they do roll around. Really they are not enough noticed and attended to keep up the family reunion as it should be. Here is nothing nicer than to witness "pa and ma," sons and daughter and children galore at a big family reunion, as they live over the happy times of other years. Such were our thoughts last Sunday as we "hove" in sight of the pretty home of our friends, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Simpson, near Antioch Mills, and noticed the large number of autos and the big crowd of friends and relatives gathered together to pay homage and celebrate the birthday of Mrs. Lizzie Simpson and her eldest son, Clarence. It was a pleasant sight indeed. There were "Uncle" John Riddell of Falmouth, father of Mrs. Simpson looking almost as young as he did twenty years agon, and her two brothers, Charley and Jim, also looking well. The whole thing was gotten up as a surprise to Mrs. Simpson, and the plans were well laid and certainly well executed, surprising Mrs. Simpson greatly. ‘Twas a well pulled off stunt. As to the dinner, it was complete in every particular, ther being lots of it and to spare, it being well prepared and well served. The following persons were present: Bro. S. W. Allen, his excellent wife and little son, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Simpson and three children Mr. & Mrs. Ezra Simpson and two children Mr. & Mrs. Claude Simpson and two children Mr. & Mrs. Louis Pigg and two children Mr. & Mrs. Llewellin Simpson and three children Johnnie Simpson John Riddell, Sr. Mr. & Mrs. Charley Riddell and Christine Jas. Riddell Paul Simpson Ray, Clay and Crawley Simpson Mrs. M. A. Kendrick Mr. & Mrs. Fed C. Elliott and two children Mr. & Mrs. John Price and son Mr. & Mrs. Ora Price and three children Mr. & Mrs. Larkin Price and two children Mrs. Dave Lyons and daughter Mr. & Mrs. Dow Bush and two children Mrs. Mae Earl and two children Frank Barnes and daughter L. T. Lyons Everett Williams Carlos Pigg Fred Rainey, Dr. Henry Will and Raymond Cookendorfer Mr. & Mrs. Joe Simpson several guests altogether, all of whom enjoyed the occasion immensely. Bro. Allen and his estimable wife, now engaged in a series of meetings at Antioch Mills, were valuable assistants in making the reunion all the more pleasant. Of course Bro. Allen was long at the table – but the eatables were so tempting. ============================== Items of interest to: Doug Harper Biloxi, MS

    1. Excerpt from "History of Kentucky", by Lewis Collins (April 1861)
    2. April 27: President Lincoln tells Hon. Warner L. UNDERWOOD, of Ky., that "he hoped Ky. would stand by the Government, in the present difficulties; but, if she would not do that, let her stand still and take no hostile part against it; and that no hostile step should tread her soil." President Lincoln had previously, in his inaugural address, March 4, 1861, said: "I declare that I have no purpose, or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so; and I have no inclination to do so. Those who nominated and elected me did so with the full knowledge that I had made this and many similar declarations, and had never recanted them. And, more than this, they placed in the platform for my acceptance -- as a law to themselves and to me -- the clear and emphatic resolution which I now read: "Resolved, That the maintenance inviolate of the rights of the States -- and especially the right of each State to order and control its own domestic institutions according to its own judgment exclusively -- is essential to the balance of power on which the perfection and endurance of our political fabric depend; and we denounce the lawless invasion, by an armed force, of the Government of any State or Territory, no matter under what pretext, as among the greatest of crimes.'"

    3. Ohio State U degree in Fruits and vegetables here., It's been 50 years, but I think he was using a plant hormone. We had a student have to leave Ohio State to finish exams elsewhere, and he had to leave several potted tomatoes in our "care?". We painted the tomato fruit with a different plant hormone, and had roots growing directly from the tomato itself. Wasn't a spray of gibberelic acid used to set seedless grapes back then? Internet would say. I was growing seedless watermelons commercially by 1960'but that's genetic. This house at what was Fagley's Fruit Farm,Bethel,Ohio was rented to Kabler's about 1930-35 by my grandfather. Later,in 1944-46,Bill and Eddie JKabler rode my bus 7.Excepting this one, their dad picked remote farms on creeks to rent. 1. PARSONS and PRESTONs in "Shoemaker Town"
    2. Doug, thank you so much for your insight as to the area of "Shoemakertown." In 1993, we were able to go to Falmouth and one of George Green Parson's daughters, Elizabeth (Parsons) Fosset-Klaber and her husband, Charles, allowed us to come and visit with her. The lived on Beech Street at the time in a lovely home. She took us up on top of the hill overlooking the Licking River where George's mill was. Their old farmhouse, of course, is long-gone, and there is another home (built of brick, I believe) near where their home was back in the 1920s. How wonderful to know you actually knew my family, and thank you for the story about George's growing seedless tomatoes! I didn't know that! I wonder what he "painted" them with? Interesting. The children of George Green PARSONS and Bess PRESTON were double cousins with another family that lived in Covington, Kentucky: Bess' brother, James "Matt" PRESTON was married to the sister of George Green PARSONS. Her name was Eleanor "Ella" PARSONS. As I understand, "Matt" was a mechanic in a garage in Covington and while working on a car, it fell on him and injured him severely. He was disabled for the most part for the rest of his life. Back to George's mill, do you suppose there might be any pictures of the mill or the grocery store that I mentioned? I would love to know more about their lives and his work. I will contact the Pendleton Co. Library and see if perhaps they can do some research for me. Again, thank you! What a nice surprise! It was kind of you to write! Blessings, Susan Strain <>< Jenks, Oklahoma "Kinfolk Korner"
