I am a descendant of Melvina Bowman, daughter of Henry Bowman and Rachel Plummer, and Walter 'Preston' Mainous, son of Lazarus Lawson Mainous and Rebecca Amanda Flanary. Preston Mainous was born in Lee County, Virginia and came to Owsley County about 1858 with his parents. Preston left Owsley County after his marriage and worked as a 'miner' in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma.. His daughter Cynthia Ann Mainous was my grandmother, she married Charles Wood Hulse in Carroll County, Arkansas in 1890. I have tried for years to find the parents of Lazarus Lawson Mainous, but have not been successful. Any help would be appreciated. I will be glad to help anyone with connections to the Mainous or Bowman family. I also have connections to the Plummer, Evans, Crawford, Lawson, Isaacs, and Flanary families.
