Hello Everyone, My father was born in Heidelberg, Ky in November of 1910. When I was growing up, I remember him telling me that there was no record of his birth because the court house had burned down. I just read this in one of the early issues of the KYRESEARCH mail list, "My main area of research is Owsley County where the courthouse burned in 1929 and all the records were lost...according to the Handy Book for Genealogists, the State Archives, and the courthouse employees.....Robert L. Smith, rlsmith@iac.net." I know that Heidelberg, Ky is in Lee County. Can anyone provide me with any information about a fire to the Lee County Court House? The date? Any old newspaper articles that might have covered it? My father's name was Carl William Begley. Son of Matthew BEGLEY(son of Albert Begley and Mary Warren) and Sarah Jane ESTES(daughter of James Estes and Susan Alice McKinney). My father's siblings were Ruby, Roxie (a.k.a Edna), Martha and Cecil (both passed away before 1920). Do any of these names ring a bell to someone? Any information is greatly appreciated.
