Bowman Killed as Tractor Overturns An Owsley County farmer was crushed to death about 10 a.m. Monday when the farm tractor with which he was towing a mower overturned on him on his farm. The body of James F. Bowman, 63, was found about 1 p.m. by his wife, she went to look for him when he failed to return to the house for lunch. Coroner Robert Strong reported that Bowman died Instantly of internal Injuries, suffered accidentally A native of Owsley County, Bowman was a retired Social Security Office Manager at Hazard, and a former teacher In the Owsley County School System. After retiring he operated his farm on Booneville Route 2. funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday September 1st at the Booneville Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Joe Powlas. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery, Lexington. He was a veteran of World War II. The scene of the fatal accident was reportedly about a half mile from his residence. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ruby Wilson Bowman; three daughter, Mrs. Ann Hall, Morehead City,NC.: Mrs. Theda Partin, Lexington, and Mrs. Rose Terrell, Owingsville; a son, James F. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jack Long, Booneville and Mrs. Diane Hensley of Lexington; four sons, Johnny of Booneville; Harold of Lexington, Robert of Knoxville, Tennessee and Russell of Norwood, Ohio. Russell Elkins was in Viet Nam when his father passed away and was home on an emergency leave, but was later released from service. Robert Elkins is Chief of the US. Army Recruiting Service in Knoxville and has established an enviable record in Southeastern Tennessee. Mrs. Elkins is also survived by one brother, Herman Abshear, Booneville and four sisters, Mrs. Mae Glenn and Mrs. Elizabeth Vadath of Perry, Ohio and Laura Parker of Bellvue, Kentucky and Kathy Dorton of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Hugh Mainous is a brother to the deceased and Hugh's wife, Lela, is a sister-in-law to William H Mainous. The late Mr. Mainous worked in a factory in Louisville for many years prior to his illness. He is survived by his wife and four sons and two daughters.
