She was born October 19, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Jesse Rice and Bertha Allen Rice Meek. She was a homemaker and had lived in Lexington most of her life where she was a member of the Broadway Christian Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.     3. Edward Combs Date of Birth: 08/31/1924 Date of Death: 07/08/2012 Edward Russell "Ed" Combs, 87, of Richmond, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012. He was born in Owsley Co., Ky., on August 31, 1924, the son of the late Conley C. and Ethel Jackson Combs. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor for the Madison County School Systems and was a Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Big Hill Ave. Christian Church for over 50 years, had a perfect attendance record for 17 straight years and enjoyed attending the Men's Sunday School Class. He was a Past Master of Richmond Masonic Lodge No. 25 F & AM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Phelps Combs; two sisters, Allie Mae Combs and Norma Williams. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Lainhart (Aaron) and Kathy Bowling (Bill); four grandchildren, Evan Scott Lainhart, Amy Bowling Arnold (Kristoffer), Erin "Kristi" Lainhart Zachary (Justin) and Russell Layton Bowling (Janie); five great-grandchildren; Ty Zachary, Kole Arnold, Jack Bowling, Maecy Arnold and Weston Zachary; two brothers, Chandler Combs (Martha) and Bobby Combs (Bertha); four sisters, Gladys Newland, Dorothy Shelton, Ruby Roberts and Thelma Bishop (Jesse Paul). Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Big Hill Christian Church with Bro. Jim Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.     3. HAROLD DUANE COMBS Born in Economy, Indiana on 9-24-33 to James and Ruth Combs, Harold had 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Luther, John, Dick, Bill and Ruthann preceded Harold in death. Remaining are Jimmy of Centerville and Carolyn Moore of Richmond, IN. Harold married Joan Jenkins 7-26-52 in Richmond; the couple renewed their vows on their 50th anniversary. They had two children, Robert, who lives in Shelby, Ohio, and Darlene Reynolds of Brighton, Colo. Harold also leaves 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In 1968 the family moved to CO. Harold was an Optician by trade. He owned and operated his optical Shop in Brighton CO for 17 years. Harold was involved in the Brighton Lions Club, and the Elks Lodge, #1586 serving as an officer for 6 years including Exalted Ruler in 1995-96. His hobbies were Jigsaw puzzles, camping and carving wooden lawn ornaments. A quiet man, Harold was known by his quick smile and bright blue eyes. Harold passed away on Feb. 16, 2012 at home in Arizona with his wife and daughter by his side. The family wishes to thank Valor Hospice for the excellent care, help and support provided Harold and his family. Also, Green Valley Baptist Church where he was a member, for their prayers, provision of meals for the family and help with many needs. Born in Owsley County, KY she was the daughter of the late Arch and Amelia Reynolds Treadway. She was a former teacher with the Powell County School System and she was a member of the Powell County Retired Teachers Association. Surviving relatives are three children, Prentys Combs of Corbin, KY, Darrhyl (Paula) Combs of Clay City, KY and Zula (Jimmie) Lisle of Winchester, KY; six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Born November 2, 1931 in Owsley County, Ky., Gladys was the daughter of John and Loucinda (Reynolds) Combs and a loving a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a devoted member of the Dodds Pentecostal Church. Preceded in death by her parents, five brothers Everett, Harlan, Hayden, Stanley and Meredeth Combs, two sisters Mary and Rosa and great-grandson Tyler L. Buford Combs Date of Birth: 10/26/1932 Date of Death: 01/22/2012 Buford Combs, age 79, of Reges Road in Irvine passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard after a long illness. He was born October 26, 1932 in Estill County and was the son of the late Elbert and Eleanor Riddell Combs. He was a retired school bus driver with the Estill County School System where he had worked for 50 years. He received honors from the state of Kentucky and Estill County for his many years of service with no accidents. He was also an outstanding farmer, a retired Estill County Fair Board member, an Estill County Farm Bureau Director. He was an Estill County Hall of Fame Farmer and received the Kiwanis Farmer Award. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and had lived in Estill County all of his life.     3. Rev. William Price Combs September 3, 1923 - December 20, 2011 William Price Combs, 88, went peacefully to be with his Lord on December 20, 2011. His is survived by his devoted spouse of 57 years Jeanette Hester Combs. He was Born in Lexington, Ky. on Sept. 3, 1923, to the late Gilbert Reynolds Combs and Sarah Rucker Goff Combs. Rev. Combs was predeceased by a sister, Julia Combs Hanks, and brother, Gilbert Reynolds Combs, Jr. To cherish his memory are 3 children, Stephen Reynolds Combs and his wife Sandy of Salisbury, North Carolina; his daughter Marian Combs Gogel and her husband Jeff of Forest, Va; and son William Jonathan Combs, of Washington D.C.; and grandchildren Luke and Sam Combs and Jillian and Gilbrith Gogel. He is also survived by three nieces: Ruth Siminski of Cashiers, N.C; Sally Benton of Marietta, Ga; and Judy Wootton of New Braunfels, Tx. "Bill" was a United Methodist Minister for 44 years and as a son and father to United Methodist ministers, he was happy to be a part of 3 generations of ministerial service. He served 12 years in the Western North Carolina conference before transferring to the Virginia Conference in June, 1961. He served churches in Virginia including some in the Roanoke District. They include "Raleigh Court UMC" as Associate Minister in Roanoke from 1969-72, ''Trinity'', "Andrew Chapel", and "Ebenezer" United Methodist Churches in Botetourt County 1972-74, and "Highland Park UMC" in Roanoke from 1974-78. At age 13, with support and love from his father, ( a Scout leader and a "Beaver" recipient for exemplary service), Bill received his Eagle Scout award. He graduated from Darlington repatory School cum laude in 1940. Later, after attending Wofford College for 2 years, Bill transferred to Duke University and received his BA in 1944. He continued his education by graduating from Duke Divinity School in 1948. Bill had a tremendous love for people and focused on Pastoral counseling. He graduated with Clinical training in 1950 with internships at two State Hospitals. He was a charter member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and continued as a lifelong member. As an active member of Raleigh Court UMC, (20 years since his retirement), he participated in The Seville Friendship Sunday School Class. Rev. Combs was interested in the Middle East, particularly in Israeli and Palestinian relations. He prayed daily for World Peace. Sign language as a study and in groups and teaching was a joy and passion for him. He was active in the local Star City Hearing Loss Association and the state level Association. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and felt a reverence for God's creatures. A memorial service will take place at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Milton Marks and Rev. Mr. Roy Miller officiating on Friday December 23,2011 at 2:00 p.m. with reception following the service.     3. Norma Darlene Combs, 77, of Minford, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born March 6, 1933, in St. Paul, Ky., a daughter of the late William Hensley and Louise Tooley Hensley. She was retired from Diebold Corporation in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Lencil "Popeye" Combs of Minford, whom she married on June, 30 1956. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Willie Rhoden of Lucasville, Ohio; two nephews, Randy (Judy) Rhoden of Minford and Darwin (Nancy) Rhoden of Lucasville; one niece, Teena Rhoden of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two great-nephews, Mark (Mandy) Taylor of Otway, Ohio, and Ryan (Anndrea) Rhoden of Lucasville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Lorraine Rhoden. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky. Burial will be in Greene Cemetery in St. Paul, Ky. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Lencil Combs was the s/o Calloway Combs and Gladys Gowen.
