I have the actual inventory of my 3-greatgrandfather David Clifton form Owen Co. It's an extensive listing of all his personal property from 1847, his net worth, excluding land and house, was over $1,000 my question does anyone know what the value of the $1.00 was in the late 40's? Listed here are some of the items included in the sale; 1 white back cow $12.00, 1 sow and three shoats $9.00, 5 lots of chickens .38 - .62 cents per lot, 1 bay horse $60.00, 1 gray mare $40.00. Also listed were several pieces of furniture; 1 cupboard $4.62, 4 chars $1.25, 1 bed $10.00, 1 bed and furniture $15.00. The list is quite extensive and includes items such as keg of vinegar, keg of lard, bag of meal, barrel of soap. The amount of the sale was not noted but it exceeded $700.00 not including cash on hand.
