The following was sent to me by my cousin and came from a posting on the ILL Roots-L list hope this helps someone. Barbara ------------------------------------------------------------ >From Ancestors Unlimited, Volume 4, Number 1, February 1993 Born In Virginia? Are You Sure? When reference is made to a persons having been born in Virginia as early as 1728 or as late as 1863, this could indicate he was born in any part of the following: ILLINOIS 1781-1818; INDIANA 1787-1816; KENTUCKY 1775-1792; MARYLAND 1775-1792; NORTH CAROLINA 1728-1779; OHIO 1778-1802; TENNESSEE 1760-1803; OR VIRGINIA 1769-1863. I have a guy who reported he was born 1803 in Virginia. Wonder if I should be searching Tennessee. To narrow this down a bit, December 9, 1778 present day Illinois became what was known as Illinois County, Virgina March 1, 1784 it left Virginia and became part of the Northwest Territory. July 1, 1801 it became part of Indiana Territory March 1, 1809 it became part of Illinois Territory On December 3, 1818 Illinois became the 21st state of the union. -------------------------------------- If someone knows this information on KY would you post it thanks Barb
