    1. Re: [KYOWEN-L] Andersonville "Search" Page
    2. Many years ago I had the chance to visit the site of the Andersonville Prison grounds. It is a beautiful place and was so serene on the Sunday that we went. Hard to believe how terrible a place it had been so many years before. Since it was a weekend, and the office was closed, we were unable to get a list of the gravesites. I was with a friend whose gggrandfather had died in Andersonville. Each dead soldier was given a number and put in next to another in these trenches. Then the graves were marked with small numbered stones. That is how you could find the location of a dead ancestor. It was not too long after that that I read Andersonville by MacKinley Cantor. Really unbelieveable for those men who lived and died there. It is well worth reading, especially if you have an ancestor who was part of the history. Judy Estes Lawrence
