WAINSCOTT b: Abt. 1855 +John T. HAYES m: March 09, 1892 in Owen Co., KY >> Bless you this is it and now I have enough evidence to help support my theory that Charles is Robert's son and David Sr grandson. As I previously stated I believe Nancy (that married Elijah Wainscott) is the daughter of Robert & Nancy (Smith) Clifton. Robert is the son of David Sr (not proven) Nancy was listed living with her brother Charles on the 1850 census and another sister Therisa was also living in the home (Therisa was listed in David Sr will as granddaughter) You said Nancy Marries 1852 so this fits and dies abt 1855 leaving her only child Nancy. Her brother Charles and wife Easter first born was daughter Nancy b 1846 d 1861. Yet in 1870 another Nancy is listed age 15. I had the death record for his daughter and the census taker listed this Nancy as a child not niece or the fact she was a Wainscott (typical) Then on the 1880 census Nancy is listed as niece and they show her to be a Wainscott. So this all makes sense he took in his dead sister only child and raised her as his own. Then Nancy Wainscott marries J T Hays 1892 this works as Charles will is dated 1896 and he states "to my adopted daughter Nancy Hays, fifty acres of the residue of my land upon conditions that her husband J T Hays, I being surety on said note with said J T Hays pays out of the fifty acres of land a note to Dr. A. W Smither of one hundred and fifty dollars or upwards said fifty acres of land to be allotted to said Nancy Hays off the upper end of the Hammons land so as to include some timber." This helps me as the land listed is just below David Sr old homestead and Robert would have been given land when he married (1825) and this would have passed to his son Charles helping prove my theory. Robert is also buried in the Clifton cemetery, located on David Sr original farm and so is Charles wife Easter and most of their children. Wonder why Nancy waited so long to marry born in 1855 married in 1892 she was 37. I do know that the 1st 4 children Charles and Easter had (1846 - 1852) were all dead by 1888 and wife Easter died in 1889 out of 4 sons only one survived him and out of 5 daughters only 2 survived him, so maybe she stayed in the household to help the family, who knows? I did find in the census index 1870 a J T Hayes but I do not have a copy of that census page, he may have been a widower, will check it out. Thank you again and to answer you second question------- <<Also, what is the relationship between Nancy Clifton and Mariah Clifton? >> Noah Clifton is David Sr brother so Robert (Nancy's father) and Mariah would have been 1st cousins <> This is correct I have Noah's family history posted on my web page and I am updating David Sr right now that is why all the questions on Charles's family. Thanks again for all the great information Barbara
