    3. Melanie, Where you want to go depends on what and when you are looking for. If you are looking for anything very recent, then you need to head for the courthouse of the county you are most interested in. I presume that would be Owen. However, check the hours for the courthouse. There is one weekday I believe it is either open only a half-day or not at all. If you are intereted in before about 1870, then you want to go to the facilities in Frankfort. There is the KY Hist. Soc. Library for general research. I think they are in new facilities. Best you check their website for location and hours. The best place for courthouse (before about 1870) for all counties and state records is the KY State Archives. They also have a website where you can get the location and hours. They also have death certificates through 1947. The Margaret King (UK) Library is in Lexington. It is hard to get parking there. If you were interested in newspapers, then this is the place to go as they have the best collection in KY. They also have the E.E. Barton Collection there which has a lot of Pendleton and Grant Co. families. The Barton Collection is also available on microfilm at any LDS branch library by ordering from the library in Salt Lake, so there isn't too much point of going there just for that. The Filson Club (Louisville) has some interesting stuff, but of very specific interest. My suggestion is this -- decide what records you want to see. If you are interested in Owen Co. court records, then call up the Owen Co. Clerk's office and also the Owen Co. Circuit Court Clerk's office (there are two different offices in the same courthouse) to see if they still have the records you are interested in or whether they have been sent to the KY State Archives. Then you go where the records are. For general research go to the KY Hist. Soc. Library. Lee SBMKHB@aol.com wrote: > > Hi! I am writing to ask a favor of all of you!
