A good partial census (i.e. schedule pages with names and ages of all individuals but no place of birth, value of property, occupation, etc.) and index for the 1850 census for Owen and the nearby counties of Carroll, Gallatin, Harrison, Henry, Oldham, Owen, Scott, and Trimble included in one volume (Grant Co. is unfortunately in another volume): 1850 CENSUS, NORTHERN KENTUCKY, PART I by Barbara, Byron and Samuel Sistler, 1996 Byron Sistler and Associates, Inc. POBox 120934 Nashville, TN 37212 615-297-3085 "The entries appear in the same order as on the original schedules. In general an entry comprises all members of a given household, except that any individuals whose surname differed from that of the household head are shown as a separate unit." There is one index for all eight counties. The index includes the name of the householder, age, county abbreviation, schedule page number, and individuals whose surnames differs from the householder: e.g. index entry for an entire household REVEL, Eldridge S. 57 (OW-232) e.g. index entry for a partial household (one which contains at least one individual with a different surname RESOR, Dallas 5 * (G-156) In the latter example Dallas RESOR, 5 years old, is listed just after the household with *Lucinda BALDWIN 25, Rhoda 5, S.D 1 (m). [ "m"="male" since "S.D." gives no indication of gender. ] so is part of her household. I have found several names poorly transcribed. e.g. NEARSCH, WILLIAM sr, p. 166 Gallatin Co. - should be MARSH, William sr AGRES, Coleman , p. 196 Owen Co.. - should be AYRES, Coleman But any book is going to have mistakes. This a very useful book. I do quite a few look-ups for Owen Co. researchers and use this census frequently. I think it cost $32 when I bought it two years ago.
