Could the cemetery on Rt. 227, you say the Bethany Church, be the Bethel Cemetery. just west of Wheatly? My husband's gr- grandfather, and his gr-gr grandfather and mother are buried there. Robert F. Knox, and Austin Knox, d. 1897 and Susan Knox, d. 1887. I was hoping to visit come spring. This cemetery is referred to as #193 in the book of Owen Co cemetery records. Phyllis -- in Cincinnati
With some help from directory assistance (not much) and the Internet, I was able to track down a phone number for the Corinth Water District in Grant Co., KY. I spoke with manager, Billy Hill, and he assured me that he had already personally inspected the Taylor Cemetery at the end of the Shiloh Road and that it would not be disturbed. The water trunk line will terminate at the edge of the cemetery. Although there are laws against disturbing or desecrating cemeteries, we know that it does happen occasionally, but I feel much better after talking to Mr. Hill. The Taylor Family Cemetery, although in Grant County, is located across Three Forks Creek from the Canby Church. Directions to the cemetery from Lusby Mill: Take Hwy 330 east from Lusby Mill 2.4 miles and turn left on the Fortner Ridge Road and then almost immediately bear right on the Keefer Pike. After approximately one mile you will cross Three Forks Creek and are now in Grant Co. Continue on through Keefer past the Antioch Church of Christ a couple of miles and turn right on the Shiloh Road. Take the Shiloh Road all the way to the end of the paved road (about 3 miles). Where the paved road ends, the road continues as a rock and gravel(not much gravel) road. The cemetery is located about 200 yards from where the asphalt pavement ends. You can drive right up to the cemetery, but I wouldn't try it soon after a hard rain. Persons buried here have close ties with early Canby and Lusby Mill families of Taylor, Howard, Mason, Wainscott, and others. If anyone has previously indexed the graves here, please let me know. I hope to be able to get back over there early next year and clean out some of the undergrowth and try to find more of the stones. For those that replied to my earlier message, Thanks! Data Coop. Box 6798 Frazier Park, CA 93222 http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html Jim, I know what you mean when you see something like this going on. There is a graveyard on Highway 227 which I believe is the old Bethany Church cemetery. (Not sure of the name) It is behind what was a church at one time. The conditions there are deplorable. Large old stones that could not have fallen by themselves are lying face down and of course the names are not visable. You dare not go to it in the summer as the weeds, tree limbs and branbles can keep you from getting to the stones. There is also the threat of snakes in such a place. Years ago, I copied the few I knew to be my step-father's family and I am thankful I did because they are now on the ground. There is a new church near by and a new grave plot. I just wonder if the old church was sold, a new one built, a new cemetery started and the old one ignored. There are laws against defacing gravestones but ignorant people do it everywhere and I guess it is almost impossible to enforce. Just wanted to put in my two-cents worth. I hope you luck. I do not live in Owen or Grant counties and so do not know whom you should call. Maxine
The Taylor Cemetery at the end of the Shiloh Road near Keefer in Grant Co. is in danger! This cemetery has ties to both Owen and Grant Counties with the family names of Taylor, Howard, Mason, Wainscott and others. After searching since October, I found this cemetery this past Friday. It has been neglected for years and is grown up with bushes, briars and weeds. But the immediate danger is that a new water line is being run on the Shiloh Road directly inline with the cemetery and the trencher is setting at the edge of the cemetery as if poised to continue on through when work resumes Monday morning. Hopefully, the crew laying the water line will skirt the cemetery, but due to the condition of the graveyard, they may think that no one would notice if they went straight on through. If someone can get me a telephone number for the Grant Co. water district that would have responsibility for this line, please e-mail me ASAP at mailto:cousin@jett-mason.com. Jim Mason Owensboro, KY

Hello.............. Alinda, tell me about the Lusby line that you are searching. My husband's line is thru Younger Lusby, and Mary Catherine Quisenberry. Younger, b. Scott Co Ky, was the son of Samuel Lusby, and Sarah. This family first appeared in Owen Co on the 1850 census. Phyllis --- in Cincy
Richard Crawford and Sarah Morgan were married feb 7 1867 at the home of Catherine Morgan in Owen Co. I have a copy of the marriage certificate. Richard was 27 and Sarah was 18. It doesn't give their parents names, but says that Richard and his parents were born in Scott Co. and Sarah and her parents were born in Owen Co. The marriage was attested to by A.B. Roberts, clerk and M.F. Ligon. Could this Catherine Morgan be Catherine Ivy?? Steven- Hi!!! Have you found Sallie Morgan in the 1850 or 1860 Owen Census records? There are several Sarah "Sallie" Morgans that were born around that time. Do you have any other information? Also, did she marry in Owen County? And last do you have them in the 1870 Owen county census? I have a copy of the records I listed above. If you do not have any of this information let me know and I will look myself. That will probably help you pinpoint who her parents were! Happy Hunting! Melanie By the way I was told regarding Catherine Ivey that there is conflicting information so maybe together we can figure it out! :) Bye!
Does anyone know who the parents of Sarah "Sallie" Morgan are? She was born Jan 14, 1849, and died in 1916. She married Richard Crawford in 1867 and had 9 children, including my Great Grandmother, Vida Hazel Crawford. I have conflicting information on Sallie's parents and grandparents. Steven E. I'm looking for info on Liburn B. Roberts whose parents were Joseph Roberts and Martha Slaughter Haydon. Liburn was born Aug 25, 1814. He and his wife, Maranda, sold their land in Owen on Sep 14, 1850 to James Marston. Lilburn bought the land in 1839 from Joseph and Patsy Roberts. After selling the land, Liburn moved to Iowa. If anyone has any additional info on this family, I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Mary Mangerson
