    1. [KYOWEN-L] Fw: Surnames and Regiments - The War of 1812 - How to Get'm all!
    2. Harleigh & Sandy Winkler
    3. Sandi and All: Haven't seen the following posted to SCK yet, so thought I'd share the following posts to and from a couple of other lists. Harleigh > >A tip on how to obtain all of the surnames from "The War of 1812" list >provided by Sierra Home's, free search this month for surnames and regiments >in the War of 1812 on the site posted by Janet below. > >Once you have reached the limited output of 100 names. You can then search >with complete name for specific individuals as you said Donna. But, you can >get all of the names for each surname beyond the limited 100 by entering >just an initial as the given name. Example: Say the last name of the first >100 names was James Johnson. You can then enter "K" (Without the quotation >marks!) Johnson, and all of the Johnson's having a given name beginning with >"K" will appear on your screen. You can continue on through the alphabet to >get the rest of the Johnson's having given names beginning with "L" through >"Z". To get those remaining which have a given name beginning with "J" and >following James, you can either enter "J" (Without the quotation marks!) or >you can pick specific given name(s) such as John Johnson and so on (But this >amounts to guess work!). To varifiy that you have all (say 580) of the >Johson's contained on "The War of 1812" list, you can run an adding machine >tape of the number (Of "A" thru "Z" Johnson's) as indicated on each screen >you look at. Then compare your total from those screens with the total >number of Johnson's as indicated on the very first screen (The one that >shows the first 100 - "A" through ???.). If your list comes up short, you >likely missed some of the "Js" following James Johnson or one of the >alphabetical letters following the "Js". > >Hope this helps! Good Luck! > >Harleigh > ========================================================= >>This was posted on the Casey list yesterday, the info on surnames for the >>war of 1812, lists the name and the regiment. The search engine works on last >>name only, but limits the output to the 1st 100 names, of course you can >>search with complete name for specific individuals. 1. [KYOWEN-L] Wainscott
    2. Careful examination of Scott and Owen Co. tax lists and other information STRONGLY indicates that John C. Wainscott (who married Susannah Cugle) was the son of Joseph Wainscott (of Owen, Scott, Madison Counties Ky). Joseph's wife was Catherine. There were a lot of John Wainscotts and also Isaacs, Richards, Abrahams etc. Jerry Layton died 1895-1905. I can't locate additional census data for him at the present time. Barry

    1. [KYOWEN-L] O'Bannon family
    2. Hi All, I received some information earlier today that has me puzzled and need some help sorting this out. In 1937 a man named Ira Manuel O'Banion wrote a pamphlet called "History of the O'Banion Family in America" in he states the following: George Washington O'Banion born 1808 died Sept. 11, 1879 buried at Mussel Shoals was the son of William O'Banion II and Susan Martin Lyons O'Banion. George Washington O'Banion married Elizabeth Lyons on Dec. 27, 1827 in Owen County and she died on Dec. 26, 1848. He lists as their children: Catherine William M. Susan Jesse Jacob John Paschel T. Mary Elizabeth George Washington, Jr. born 1846 Asa Ann Andrew Marion Jasper He also states that Susan Martin was the foster daughter of Vanta Lyons. According to my research and the rest of the O'Bannon researchers I have come in contact with George Washington O'Bannon is the son of John O'Bannon and Susannah Martin O'Bannon. John O'Bannon is listed tenatively as the son of John O'Bannon ( William-Bryan) and Frances Wright. He was born in Fauquier County, VA. Susannah Martin is the youngest daughter of Jacob Martin and his wife Sarah from Fauquier County, VA who moved to Scott County around 1797. George Washington O'Bannon is a brother to Bryan, John, William, Anna ( who married Asa Cobb), Sarah ( who married James Perkins) and Elizabeth who married Jesse Osborne ( it isn't Owens as the marriage records state the paper work shows it was Jesse Osborne). I am thoroughly confused by this information. There are two graves listed in Eternal Rest for Susan Martin Lyons and William O'Bannon II both showing they were born in Fauquier County, Va and died before 1821 in Owen County, KY. The problem is Susannah Martin O'Bannon was alive until 1847. John is presumed alive by the consent form and bond for his daughter Elizabeth in 1825 and he signed his name on his marriage bond and deeds as John O'Bannon. Susannah Martin's father was alive until 1840 and died in Licking County, Ohio where he is listed on the rolls of the Revolutionary War Pensioners age 100. My question to the group is Who is William O'Bannon II? Is he a brother of John? Are there two Susan ( or Susannah Martins in Scott County and later Owen County) at this time? If anyone has any information about this please respond so we can figure out where this fits into the Martin and O'Bannon lines. Thanks for the help. MichaelAnne

His father was born in England in 1786 and sailed on the Phoenix arriving in Philadelphia in 1801. He married Sarah (she was born in Virginia) and they lived in Hamilton County, Ohio where most of their children were born before moving to Owen County, KY. Their son William W. Chapman married Pauline Martin and the Jane Martin. I am a descendant of Charity Susan Chapman daughter of William W. Chapman and Pauline Martin. William W. was the only child I can find that was born in Owen County. If anyone else has information on William and his wife Sarah I would love to hear it. I know William sailed out of Bristol, Gloucestershire, England but whoever copied the records for the National Archives forgot to copy the other side of his card containing notes on him. The card simply says "over" and no one copied the notes. Does anyone have a birthplace for him? His naturalization papers from the Owen County Court house also just list England as his birthplace. Thanks. MichaelAnne --part0_916966876_boundary--
