A new cousin, Tony Lyon, sent this to me and I wanted to share with the group I know we have all felt this way and right now I have a family line that just appeared with no trace of where they came from. Hope you all have a Happy Easter and the best of luck in your research, Barbara Guinn, list administrator --------------------------------------------------- KINSMAN (Original Poem by Wayne Hand, 1999) Alas, my elusive kinsman You've led me quite a chase I thought I'd found your courthouse But the Yankees burned the place. You always kept your bags packed Although you had no fame, and Just for the fun of it Twice you changed your name. You never owed any man, or At least I found no bills In spite of eleven offspring You never left a will. They say our name's from Europe Came State side on a ship Either they lost the passenger list Or granddad gave them the slip. I'm the only one that's looking Another searcher I can't find I play (maybe that's his fathers name) As I go out of my mind. They said you had a headstone In a shady plot I've been there twenty times, and Can't even find the lot. You never wrote a letter Your Bible we can't find It's probably in some attic Out of sight and out of mind. You first married a..........Smith And just to set the tone The other four were Sarahs And everyone a Jones. You cost me two fortunes One of which I did not have My wife, my house and Fido God, how I miss that yellow lab. But somewhere you slipped up, Ole Boy, Somewhere you left a track And If I don't find you this year Well..........Next year I'll be back. >From The Lair Home Of A Lyon I've gone to look for myself. If I should return before I get back keep me here!!
Received this information though it might help others in their research, Thanks Judy Barb, Robin may need to contact The University Press of Kentucky, 663 South Limestone St., Lexington, Ky 40508-4008 to see if they have a copy. They have a lot of things on Ky. and the only place I know of off hand. Unless they try to see if it is on inter-library loan. Judy
Dear Listers, What I meant to say earlier, was that the research librarian of a library can borrow a copy of "Stories of KY Feuds." There are libraries in the country which will lend their copy of the book to your library for two weeks. Tom
The Book, Stories of KY Feuds can often be obtained by your local library. Thats where I got a copy, and I have used it to write about the non-feud in which James M. Walker was murdered by the KKK. Tom
Robin (Cripto t@aol.com) sent this to me directly, do any on you know where she can find this book? ----------------------------------------------------------- Hi Barbara. I am looking for a booklet titled "Stories of Kentucky Feuds" by Harold Wilson Coates, from Holmes-Darst Coal Company, Cincinnati, Ohio 1924. He writes about a Kentuckian Outlaw named Green Barr from Owen County. I believe this Green Barr is my ggrandfather. Do you happen to know where I could go to find any information to back this up?
Just for general information I found a table of distances for Owen Co in the 1883 atlas using the town of Owenton as a starting point this is how far our ancestors would have had to travel to get to the other towns Bethany PO 12.7 Dallasburg 12.5 Gratz 9.2 Harmony 16.7 Hesler PO 7.5 Lusby Mill 8.0 Montery 11.0 New Columus 14.6 New Liberty 8.0 Poplar Grove10.4 Sparta 12.7 Squiresville PO 8.2 And to give you an idea of the size of Owen Co (this would not be from County line to County line) Popular Grove is located at the top right of the County on the Gallatin/Grant County lines and Harmony at the bottom center Franklin/Scott County lines the distance they show is 27.1 miles and from side to side Gtatz on left center of the County on the Henry County line and Lusby Mill on right on the Grant County line they show 17.2 This is an easy drive for us today how long in the mid 1800"s by wagon? Barbara
Yesterday I posted a page from the Order Book A I just found out the date on the entries was Monday, Feb 14, 1820 Thanks Judy and this relay helped further establish the fact that my David Clifton was living in the area in 1820 for some reason he is not found on the 1820 census but was listed on tax records.
Barbara, I have a Mary O'Banion Clifton who married Henry Trigg Estes in 1/15/1896, his second marriage. Estes being my line. Peggy
I just received the will of Charles Clifton 1896 he is believed to be the son of Robert and his grandfather was David Sr. He is burried in the Clifton cementary along with his wife Easter and several of his children. The following family names were listed in the will: daughter Mary Ann O'Banion (her husband was John W they married 3/9/1882) daughter Sarah Perkins husband was Henry they married ?) Sarah dies in 1888 and Charles list grandchildren Annie, John, Lucy & Bertha Perkins. He gave the above 100 acres purchased from Henry Stevenson adjoining lands of W. Sebree and E. Clark Adopted daughter Nancy Hays 50 acres upon conditions that her husband J. T. Hays pays out of the fifty acres of land a note to Dr. A. W. Smithers of $150.00 and a notation that the land is off the upper end of the Hammons land to include some timber. (Note would like to get more information on this family if anyone knows) Charles land would be located below the old David Sr property of Cobb Road ) Witnesses Joseph Shirley and J H Davis Charles and Easter only surveying son George Thomas he married Anna Perkins 2/28/1877 she was the daughter of Jim & Lessie (Osborne) Perkins. If anyone can connect to the above surnames I have some additional information or if you have additional information to add please let me know. Thanks Barbara

Hi, Cousins, It's me again. Can anyone give me any info on a Union Army Co. I, 6th Reg. Calvary which was mustered in Owenton, Owen Co on 16 Sep 1862? I have a William Wess Dawson who served in the Union Army and this is the first thing I've seen that would fit for him. He disappeared after 1 Apr 1863, leaving a wife and 3 children. I would appreciate some info on this Company. Thanks, Judy Estes Lawrence.
Dear Cousins, I have another name for you all to see if we can figure out. I had some information about Groom and Sarah Howard Taylor which I cannot find. They were the parents of Rebecca Taylor who married Jesse Holbrook and Hannah Taylor who married William Wilborn Holbrook. Lucinda Taylor, wife of Uncle Tim Cobb, is supposed to be the daughter of Thomas Taylor. A Thomas P. Taylor married Sealah Holbrook 14 May 1828 in Grant Co., Ky. She is possibly a daughter of Colby Holbrook. Can anyone give me any more definate info on this family? I have been working exclusively on the Holbrook line this week. Zachariah had a son, Henry, who married Martha Ann Cobb 1 Nov 1848. She is the sister of Eliza Cobb who married Henry's brother, Martin. I found them in the 1850 Grant Co., Ky census. This info contradicts what is in the Cobbs of Owen Co., but can prove this info. Henry died young in 1852 with Martin as administer of his estate. His widow married S.A. Williams for her second husband. I am determined to get these Holbrooks figured out, one way or another. Need any help I can get. Thanks Cousin Judy Estes Lawrence
Hello cousins, I am putting a couple of new names on the the list. First, after many years of mistaken reading and research, I find I now need to look at a new name. I need to know if anyone has any info on a Lucinda or Lucy Lewis who married a John S. Lewis in Owen Co., in 1838. They had three children. He apparently died and she remarried to Jefferson "Taylor" Farrow (Farrar) some time around 1847 and had 3 more Farrar children: Willis, Euphemia, and Emma. Apparently sometime after Emma's birth she died. Willis and Euphemia are with a Wilhoite family and Emma doesn't show up untill the 1880 census. Willis married Martha Stamper, Euphemia married Benjamin Jones, and Emma married a Sims Jackson. Taylor also married previously with one child named Henry. Henry married Drucilla Cora Wilson. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Judy Estes Lawrence

Baxter lived in Owen County in 1850 with their two children, Martha Jane and John Marshall Baxter. This seems to have been on a farm. They were married in Madison County, KY in 1845. Family stories say that Anderson was killed by Morgan's Raiders when he refused to give up his horses. Another family story says that the Federal troops wanted his horses and when he refused, he was arrested and put into a Federal prison where he became ill and was sent home. According to his wife's obit, he died in September, 1862. I'm interested in how Anderson W. Baxter died. Was he killed by the Confederate soldiers, or did he die as the result of his imprisonment by the Federal troops? I am also interested in when his daughter, Martha Jane Baxter married my g grandfather, Thomas J. Miles, (from Henry Co., Ky.). According to the family bible, their first child was born December 2, 1860. Anderson and his son (John Marshall) are both buried in a place called Gratz Landing, according to family stories. Thank you for any information you can give me. Chet Hamilton --part0_921882420_boundary--
