Was just reading a sad story of Vincent Matthew's wife Eliza that committed suicide after losing her husband and son, in the Hartford Herald online at the Kentuckiana Digital Library. This happened February 6, 1856. In the article, it never gives Eliza's maiden name. Does anyone know what that would be? The article also says that their eldest child, a daughter, married Normal Harl and had died of comsumption "many years ago at the old homestead." I know of no Normal Harl-but of a Norvil/Norville Harl (father of Katie Preston Harl Burton). According to The Macedonia Baptist Church History-he married Martha Fanny Mathis in 1858. This is a misspelling and should be Matthews? It is a long article and gives much information about the family, though never mentions the children by name but mentions that they had 5 children total. Eldest-a girl, rest were all boys with the youngest boy dying before his dad and Vincent was buried next to him. Summer of 1855, Asiatic Cholera hit Breckinridge county and Vincent caught it. Doesn't say when exactly he died but his illness was of short duration. It also gives the parents of Vincent Matthews as William Matthews and a Miss Preston "daughter of an early settler of Grayson county." Miss Preston's sister was also the "mother of the late James Bozarth, a carpenter, contractor for many years at Hartford." Does anyone know which Preston was the girls' father? And finally, James Bozarth is John/Jonathan James Bozarth who married Nancy Rebecca Burton and then Susan D. Bennett? The links don't work for the pages, but here is the article information: Title: Hartford herald (Hartford, Ky.): n. Wednesday, June 23, 1909. Author: Hartford herald (Hartford, Ky.).
