Rachael Bratcher was the daughter of William Bratcher & Mary ? and was born June 12, 1836 died Oct. 3, 1918. She is buried at Goff Cemetery, near Steff,  in Grayson Co. Ky. She married Calvin T. Goff, July 29, 1852 in Grayson Co.. Calvin was born Sept. 13, 1832, died March 25, 1874, he is also buried in Goff Cemetery.   Rachael & Calvin had a son named James bn abt. 1862, who married Josie Mason, daughter of Richard Mason.   Hope this helps. I have my dad's Ohio County delayed birth certificate, with three affidavits, one by his father, Jasper Newton Cox, and two more -- one by his aunt Ella Smith Stewart and another Ohio County resident, J. H. Keown. It is dated May 6, 1959. It really helped me establish some dates I needed. My father went to school there a few months when the family was back home on a visit. The Ohio County School census record for 1916-1917 was also cited as evidence of how old he was. Thanks again for all you do! I am talking about Hulda Ross that married William Garth. I believe Adeline being shown as having the maiden name of James is the error. John Robert Midkiff's d/c shows his mother as Adeline Garth. Henry C. Midkiff's d/c shows her as Adeline Garr. There is nothing to prove her as a James. There are no marriage records that I have found for either Adeline or Hulda ever being married to a James. Plus Hulda had other children younger and older than Adeline, all with the last name Garth. So the answer is, if you take the last name of JAMES out of the mix then it makes sense how Hulda Haynes is James Stanislaus Medcalf's mother inlaw. MIDKIFF 19 Apr 1844 , Ohio, Kentucky. Elizabeth Adaline Garth was the daughter of William GARTH and Hulda ROSS who were married 19 Dec 1814 , Jefferson, Kentucky. Elizabeth Adeline GARTH was a sister to David P. GARTH who married Sarah Ellen "Sally" Callaway Thomas B. MIDKIFF I don't know his parents. but we seem to Have Midkiff's and Medcalf's families living near each other and marrying into some of the same families although not all Midkiff were Medcalf's or were Medcalf's really MIDKIFF's, but the Census and the Ohio County, KY marriage records has them all mixed up, which makes it more difficult to sort out. This still does not explain that if Hulda GARTH married John B. Haynes in Ohio Co. Jan 14, 1846, how she would be the mother in law of James Stanislaus MEDCALF if his wife was Adaline JAMES.and his wife was born abt 1825 long before Hulda GARTH married John B. HAYNES. This would seem to indicate Hulda Garth was married Previously to ? James if Adaline James was her daughter. So I still have some details I need to understand. but thanks for helping, I did not have the Hulda Garth who married John B. Haynes was Hulda GARTH married to ? James before John B. Haynes? She has with her sons William 14, Henry 13, Thomas 11, John 7 and Stephen 5. In 1870 household of James Medcalf there is wife Adaline and son Stephen age 15. On the death certificate of John Robert Midkiff he was born Oct 22, 1852 and died Feb 24, 1942. His parents are listed as Thomas Midkiff and Adaline Garth. On Dec 19, 1814 in Jefferson Co. Barry Ashby I made some of the corrections, but you have to many errors to correct them all right now. Correct these then I'll help you correct the other errors. I'm currently working on Medcalf Family so I know a few things. The previously mentioned petition in equity, presented in the Nelson Co. chancery court in Feb. 1854 reveals that "Eliza Medcalf' wife of Ignatius, is dead, leaving four children": Julia Ann who married George Brown, Henry, Robert Bruce, and Charles Medcalf. (Julia Ann had married George Brown in Nelson Co. on 25 Dec. 1842.) The 1880 settlement lists only three, one of them nameless: "Henry Medcalfe, Robert Medcalfe, and ______ Medcalfe." Although not every court document is careful about using married names of female heirs, the greatest probability is that Julia Ann Medcalf has died without heirs and that this nameless third heir is Charles Medcalf.
