You filled in some blanks for me - and if you want, I can fill in a lot that you don't have here. I am into writing a chapter on each of the 14 children of James William Cox and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell (I'm finished with the parent's part). Have about 68 pages in progress on the 14 children, including source material from the Cox family Bible, obits on most of them, census, church, and cemetery records, newspaper articles, death certificates, some oral history, and from family group charts that Loretta (Crowder) Westerfield, (daughter of Cinderella (Cox) and Hannibal Thomas Crowder and wife of Alfred Westerfield), helped me compile in the 1970s. Many of the children of these 14 kids visited Loretta to give their family information, so I have a lot (not down to the present time necessarily) but at least through many of the 2nd cousins of a number of the 14 children. I would especially like to hear from descendants of: Susannah Miranda Cox 1862-1910, md. John Henry Stewart Delana Jane Cox 1866-1925, md John Wesley Duvall Mary Ellen Cox 1869-1962, 1) William Cornelius Stewart; md 2) Frank Crawford and 3) James Christian Martha Evelyn Cox 1877-1961, md 1) Birch Shields; md. 2) Rev. J. J. Willett; Emma Catherine Cox 1872-1928, md. Henry Cicero Crowder Sarah Mae Cox 1889-1935, md. George Clayton Hocker Tomorrow I'll send you the data for the wives of the six Cox boys. I have all the names of the children of Joseph Martin Mitchell and Susannah Caroline Acton, and of who their children married. Working on Judith (Benson) Mitchell's father, Chichester Benson, who died in Shelby County. Thanks again. Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If your ancestor is John Byron Smallwood, b. 13 Oct 1874 Indiana, I suggest you turn to Monroe County, Indiana, for answers. If your target, Laura Medora Miles, is indeed from Ohio County, Kentucky, then submit another query with EVERYTHING you know about her to the readers of this board no matter how small. Her name is just not enough work with. FYI, Ancestry.com has a OneWorldTree on John Byron Smallwood b. 13 Oct 1874 Indiana. His parents are listed as Hazel Tucker Smallwood (male) 1848 - 1924 b. Indiana (or b. North Carolina or b. Ohio?) and Susan (or Sarah) Alice Taylor, b. Indiana. John Byron Smallwood married at least twice: to Bertha M. Smith b. 1874 Indiana (They m. Abt. 1885, probably in Monroe Co, IN.), and to Anna C. Helfrich b. 1888 Indiana. (They m. Abt. 1904, probably in Monroe Co, IN.) Good luck with your research. (northwestern part of Ohio Co) and the Pinchecho near Cooper's School is down more or less in the southern part of the county. I read about a lot about a "renegade gang" up in that part and someone sent in a long newspaper account of this gang - but it was not the same locality as Pincheco closer to the Butler Co. border, as I understand it. Dear List, I wish to correct an error I made recently. I had told several people that Ignatius MEDCALF who married Eliza VOWLES was a son of James MEDCALF and Mary BRIAN. Well I finally found the will of James Medcalf who married Mary BRIAN Found him in the Washington County Wills (Sea Sanders) book: MEDCAFF, James - Will- W: 21 Nov 1821, P: 15 Jun 1824 Leg: Wife Mary Children: William, Stephen. John, Mary, Eleanor, Thomas, Ann, Elizabeth and Catherine Medcaff. Wit: Ignatius Hagan, Henry Johnson Signed: James Medcaff D-19 as you notice there is no son listed named Ignatius MEDCALF. So at this Point I have removed Ignatius MEDCALF as a son of James MEDCALF and Mary BRIAN. I have no idea as yet who parents are of the Ignatius MEDCALF who married Eliza VOWLES. My appologies for giving several people that piece of information incorrectly.
Was just reading a sad story of Vincent Matthew's wife Eliza that committed suicide after losing her husband and son, in the Hartford Herald online at the Kentuckiana Digital Library. This happened February 6, 1856. In the article, it never gives Eliza's maiden name. Does anyone know what that would be? The article also says that their eldest child, a daughter, married Normal Harl and had died of comsumption "many years ago at the old homestead." I know of no Normal Harl-but of a Norvil/Norville Harl (father of Katie Preston Harl Burton). According to The Macedonia Baptist Church History-he married Martha Fanny Mathis in 1858. This is a misspelling and should be Matthews? It is a long article and gives much information about the family, though never mentions the children by name but mentions that they had 5 children total. Eldest-a girl, rest were all boys with the youngest boy dying before his dad and Vincent was buried next to him. Summer of 1855, Asiatic Cholera hit Breckinridge county and Vincent caught it. Doesn't say when exactly he died but his illness was of short duration. It also gives the parents of Vincent Matthews as William Matthews and a Miss Preston "daughter of an early settler of Grayson county." Miss Preston's sister was also the "mother of the late James Bozarth, a carpenter, contractor for many years at Hartford." Does anyone know which Preston was the girls' father? And finally, James Bozarth is John/Jonathan James Bozarth who married Nancy Rebecca Burton and then Susan D. Bennett? The links don't work for the pages, but here is the article information: Title: Hartford herald (Hartford, Ky.): n. Wednesday, June 23, 1909. Author: Hartford herald (Hartford, Ky.).
