Alright - For those of you that are confused with all this Stogner family - (and that includes Ann), let me set you straight.....Again.....John Stogner, born ca 1778, lived in Camden Dist., SC, married to Sarah Coates. John and Sarah were the parents of Benjamin Bynum Stogner, born 1817, who married Sarah Van Landingham, born 1819 and married 1841, SC. Their son, Christopher Columbus Stogner was born 1843, SC. Now, Benjamin Stogner, born ca 1778, living Lancaster Co., SC (same as Camden Dist.), married Mary Garner, born ca 1778. They are the parents of my 3rd great-grandfather, William Jackson Stogner, brother of Capt. John Stogner, who left Lancaster Co. and went to Carroll Co., Ga. Now, most likely, Benjamin and John were brothers, as they witnessed papers for each other in Lancaster, but I have no proof of such. Does that help? Glad to be of service!!! Ha! Ha! We will keep y! ou straight, Ann. Just keep digging them bones! Gloria Stogner Cook. KY" and found a record (from another family history) that he had invested in a silver mine, along with several others. Very interesting story! I also saw another name used, Winchester Benson, but whoever posted that in the records, I think they probably meant Chichester. I also googled same thing for Robert Mitchell. Found some interesting Mitchell stories - but not particularly for the Shelby Co. bunch...yet! A few things, but not much. I went to a genealogical seminar today, sponsored by the Family History Center, LDS Church and the East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, and learned, I think, some great new ways I didn't know about to use the internet for research. I'll be trying some of it out in the coming weeks to see what I can turn up, if anything, on Chichester Benson, and Robert and Elizabeth Campbell. And then I will share. Didn't I notice recently in the Ohio Co. Genealogical Society Newsletter that LRM had Bensons? Thanks again. Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You bet I could be wrong; I did make a typo. Judith Benson md. Robert in Shelby Co., but they did go to Bullitt Co. after their marriage to live, but didn't stay too long. I could be wrong on some things -but I have the will of Chichester, and a number of things from death of Joseph, including inventory, I think, and also a photo of the grave markers of Robert Mitchell and wife Elizabeth Campbell. >From something I saw but didn't check into further yet, was the idea that Robert Mitchell's father may also have been named Robert Mitchell and the two old markers bear this out, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure about that yet; have to work on this some more and review the correspondence. Haven't really gotten in to studying Robert and Elizabeth Campbell Mitchell yet. I did see several things on the internet, several of which had different data. I saw many working on a Chichester Benson from Massachusetts, too. But Judith was born in NC and I have data from a professional genealogist I used in the 70s that it may have been in Surry Co. NC. (One Chichester Benson was there in 1784.) I have a history, I think written many years ago by a Mrs. Kimble of Ohio Co.. I worked for a number of years with George E. Kimble of Florida, who meticulously documented his work, and trips made to Salt Lake City. He and his wife worked in an LDS library as a volunteer up north for many years. He read and documented many reels of microfilm during the 1970s on Bensons and Mitchells of Shelby and Ohio Cos. According to the Mitchell History written by Mrs. W. L. Kimble (who I think was his mother) in Ohio County, KY - this couple (Robert and Judith) after their marriage, moved to Bullitt Co., and I have docs from there to bear that out. According to family records, exchanged in the 1970's with George E. Kimble, One Watergate, Apt. 13-D, 1111 North Gulf Stream Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 33577, Judith Benson was born August 27, 1787; her parents are (by tradition, I think)reported to have come from Wales, she married Joseph Mitchell of Irish parents, and their four children were - John, Thompson, Jonathan and Mary. John Mitchell was born 24 April 1809. These four grandchildren are named in Chichester's will. When Joseph Mitchell died, Judith (Benson) Mitchell married his brother, Robert Mitchell. C. B. Mitchell wrote that John Mitchell (son of Joseph) was born in Shelby County, Kentucky. In Will Book No. 3, pages 499/500 of Shelby County, Kentucky, is included a list of personal property sold by the Estate of Joseph Mitchell, deceased, by Judith Mitchell, (her mark), Administrator. December Court of 1816, so Joseph apparently died in 1816 because administration was had in the December court, settled by Judith Mitchell. About three years after Joseph died, Judith married Joseph's brother, Robert Mitchell in June 1819, according to a marriage contract I have between the two. Judith Mitchell died April 3, 1882 near Rosine. I have her obit. Robert died sometime after 1850. I "think" Judith's obit said she had been a widow for 24 years - placing Robert's death in 1858 in Ohio Co. KY. I am always, always happy to have my errors pointed out so we can all correlate our records and "get it right." I surely do not want to perpetuate my errors by giving others the wrong information. I am just now going through my correspondence and reviewing docs with George E. Kimble from years ago in the 70s, and beginning to thread our information and data collected, together to try to weave some kind of story, because "the clock is ticking." I am always happy to exchange and pool information to get "the rest of the story." : ) Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. According to files I have ran across, Willis was married to Lucinda Bratcher. They had 4 children. Martha b abt 1835, Emily b abt 1840, Willis b abt 1844 and Margaret b abt 1848. In the 1850 census Lucinda Bratcher is living with her 2nd husband, Green Crowder, and her Campbell children. If I am correct, then Eleanor Stewart Crowder would be a 1st cousin to Emily Susan Campbell. It appears that Miles and Emily Campbell Raymer are both dead by the 1880 census. I have located their 5 known children. As you have, William H. and Mollie (Panola per 1870) are with Henry Crowder, Cinda (Lucinda M.) and Monroe are living with Joseph Jones, and youngest son Robert Presley is living with Eliza Stewart. I'm not sure which M. B. Raymer is buried at Mt Pleasant. Someone has a family on the net that shows him as being a Miles B. that was b abt 1842 and died 1912.
