KY there in 1870 and in OHIO CO from 1880 forward. Problem, the ages of parents and children jump all over the place in the census files with as much a 10 years spead in ages. for some members of the family. Also the marriage date also moves Hope someone who knows this family group will be willing to share the real dates Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Cox story to WCK:FRA, and they may use it in their quarterly. I cited Henry L. Iler as md. 2nd to Mary (Campbell) Stewart - I should have added "widow of Richard Stewart" for clarification. I feel pretty comfortable with this, and if it turns out wrong, I will have to send out a correction. I know it was a little risky - but then I also think we did a lot of research by process of elimination, too. Because of the marriage date, I think, personally, that only the last two children were Henry L. Iler's and Mary Stewart's children. I agree with Billy Morris that Richard may have been Mary's child by husband Richard and named for him (the last little eight year old.) And that maybe the census taker just took it for granted he was an Eiler because both boys were eight. Maybe he thought they were twins, who knows? Census takers were notorious for making mistakes when they recopied their enumerations, sometimes. And after all, they have been working by lamplight at night! Now, is this Henry L. Iler the same one that married Mary (Martha) Ferguson? Their marriage is listed in Ohio County Marriages 1852-1914. He is listed 44 widowed she as 46 widow. If this is the same person they are listed in the 1860 Census of Buchanan, Atchison MO. Henry M. Iler 46 Martha 48 Elizabeth J 18 Nicholas W. 16 Maretta 2 The children probably are hers by another marriage. For what it is worth I think Richard Iler listed is Richard Stewart Jr. born Sept 15 1841 died Oct 23 1889 he married Delilah O. Sandefur Feb 23 1865. That is what I have been able to find. If you look at the death dates of Emeline, Oliver and Elizabeth it appears that they may have all lived together or very very close. The 3 of them died within days of each other. That's pretty sad. It looks like Henry buried a wife, a son and his mother (or sister inlaw) almost at the same time. In 1850 census John and Richard are both shown as 8yrs old. That's what makes me think Richard was Mary's son. Glad I could help. Betsy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I think you are right - think I saw Mary Campbell's name somewhere who married Richard Stewart, which made her a widow when she married Henry Iler as "Mary Stewart." Thanks to you for this, which I feel is accurate. I'm going to go with it, but I'll explain circumstances for future researchers to ponder! I also looked at GenForum's Surname website for Henry L. Iler. Only one researcher there, with Henry L. Iler info. This researcher said Henry md. Emeline Cooper, April 1836 in Ohio Co. KY and that Henry died Feb 6, 1894, and was buried at Arnold Cemetery, Ohio Co. He also had the following children for Henry & Elizabeth Cooper: Serena Iler, b. about 1836 Ohio Co. KY John Iler b. Abt. 1842 Ohio Co. KY Richard Iler, b Abt 1845 KY, and then: Emeline Iler b. Abt. 1847 KY Zachariah Iler b. Iler (including several spellings) and didn't find him in 1860 and I think, for 1870. An 1850 census lists one Henry Iler, age 36, with daughter Serena, 16; John, age 8 and Richard age 8 (think this is an error in ages according to other info on these two boys); and Emeline age 3 and Zachariah, age 1. If Henry Iler md. Mary Stewart March 24, 1846, (perhaps because his first wife, said to be Eliza Cooper had died), this would sound reasonable that Henry and Mary had their first child ten months later - Emmeline "Emma" and next had Zachariah in 1848 about two years later. I want to put this in my book, and want to be sure I have the correct mother for Emmeline - else I will have to leave out her mother's name. Where did you find Henry in 1860? In answering Janice's orig. question, Emaline/Emma would have been Mary Campbell's daughter. Henry's first wife died Aug 15, 1842.
