I have loads of new information that I am getting from them. Also, a friend recently asked me to look and see if I had anything that would prove who the parent of an ancestor of his was. The proof was in the first volume I looked at! Needless to say, he is ordering the volumes too. I truly wish every county had something just like this. This is absolutely invaluable information, and had to have taken a very long time to do the work, and indexing, etc. The three volumes are very thick, thorough, and well-done! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: FJLong Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.ohio/7365.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Robert & other Ohio County researchers: I have just published the books, "Ohio County, Kentucky Obituary Index, 1873-1899" and "Ohio County, Kentucky Obituary Index, 1900-1910". I have also reprinted "Ohio County, Kentucky Obituary Index, 1920-1980" (originally published in 2004). I have previously published several sources on Ohio County (including a book on 1810-1840 censuses & early tax lists, as well as numerous articles on various county records, cemetery listings, bible & family sketches). For the past 25 years one of my pet projects has been reading the old newspapers of Ohio County. I have gone through all known newspapers for the county from 1873 through 1980 and made a listing of all obituaries and death notices I could find. In 2004 I published an "Index" book to the obituaries for the years of 1920-1980. It listed the newspaper titles & dates in which the obits were found but not the vital data given in the original article(s). The two new volumes abstract all info given in the deaths notices and obituaries found in the periods of 1873 to 1899 and 1900 to 1919. If given they record the dates & places of death & birth, causes of death, cemeteries were interred, survivors, race, marital data, current & past residences, occupations, military service, other notable references about the person or his family. The volumes contain many annotations to other previous or subsequent newspaper articles about the person or immediate members of his family. In the approximately 1300 pages of the three volumes about 39,000 deaths are chronicled. They are arranged in alphabetical order by the name of the deceased and include cross indexes of all veterans and other names and relatives cited. The volumes al! so include numerous citations of obituaries or articles for the same person that were published in the Owensboro, KY newspapers. I have knowledge of the Owensboro articles since I have compiled the online Owensboro Obituary Index for the years of 1842-1919 available on the Daviess County Public Library's Internet site (http://obits.dcplibrary.org/). I believe that the Ohio County obituary volumes integrate, present and make accessible extensive history of Ohio County and its families. 3. What I was thinking of was one central place where I could donate $ for use in any cemetery in the state that needed it. It seems to me that more need it then don't and I don't want to discriminate. Since I can't help physically, I could help this way. Is there any state historical (or other) organization somewhere that I can donate to specifically for maintenance/needs of Kentucky cemeteries? So many of them are in need of repair/upkeep. Maybe the DAR there would know. Does anybody have their contact info?. I have pictures of the Iglehearts buried at the Igleheart-Patterson cemetery that I've been meaning to post. A couple of the names you mention sound familiar. I got as many pictures as I could. Perhaps I may have pictures of other markers or from cemeteries that you may also have relatives at. I will try to get the pictures up in the next day or two. I will also check with the local historian about a separate Patterson Cemetery. There are so many small family cemeteries that it becomes very confusing. Please email me directly at teri_igleheart@hotmail.com and I will send a list of the Iglehearts recorded at these cemeteries. I have seen listings of it. Your taking the time to capture the cemetery in photos is wonderful. The Pattersons resting there are not my direct line but, they descend from my third great grandfather, Jonathan Patterson (1784-1860). His oldest son Archibald Patterson is buried there with his wife Deborah (Bridewell) Patterson (1813-1898). They and their children owned the land as well as nearby farms. There is also an Igleheart connection. Benjamin T. Igleheart married Arch and Deborah's daughter Matilda Catherine. Some of their children are also buried there. I assume, by your post, that you intend to make these photos available ot others. I would be interested in some of these cemetery photos. Will you be posting them to the web or will they available otherwise? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Jerry, I want to say that I got my three volumes of the Obituary Indexes for Ohio County in the mail today. They are fabulous! They are so worth every penny I paid for them! They will keep me busy all summer adding new information on many of my family lines! I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the hard work you have done to publish these volumes. I wish other counties had similar information as the information provided is so valuable to researchers. Nancy

I have pictures from both that I have yet to upload. However, due to recent ice storms these cemeteries are heavily covered by fallen tree branches and debris. A local historian took us to both locations. She also is able to get local inmates to come clean up the old cemeteries from time to time. I plan to contribute money for this to be done so that we can go back and get better pictures of markers. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I usually format my responses as genealogy reports to avoid confusion, but this time I didn't. The widower Albert A "Achilles" Parks - who married thirdly to the widow Mrs. Margaret Ann (Long) Travis - is already listed NO LESS THAN TWICE in your Rootsweb.com database "Ohio County Kentucky Lines 2009" (See Albert F. Parks b. May 1868 KY. See also Achilles A. Parks b. 1868 Ohio County, KY. ) FYI, Albert A. "Achilles" Parks, who was Margaret's final husband, was the informant on her death certificate.) You can view Margaret Ann Long, her parents (Benjamin and America Long), and her siblings in the 1860 Census of Anderson County, District unknown Lawrenceburg P.O., page 70, stop 203. Author: Barry_Ashby Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.ohio/7369.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Joe, Try looking towards Anderson County, Kentucky, for some answers. It appears that James Henry Travis's wife was born there. And James might hail from there as well. A prime suspect appears to be James S. Travis b. Abt. 1847 Anderson County son of Elizabeth MNU Travis b. Abt. 1805 KY. See the 1850 Census of Anderson County KY. Here's what I dug up: MARGARET ANN "ANNIE" LONG b. 18 Jun 1851 Anderson Co, KY, d. 2 Jul 1925 Ohio County, KY. Parents are BENJAMIN FRANKLIN LONG 1822 - 1909 b. KY and AMERICA BURRIS MORGAN 1827 - 1901 b. KY. She m. 1) JAMES HENRY TRAVIS b. Abt. 1848 (not 1852); she m. 2) ALBERT A. "ACHILLES" PARKS 1869 - 1944 (His third marriage). [Ref: RootsWeb.com database, Ohio County Kentucky Lines 2009 by Joseph Taylor; Ancestry.com database, The Family of James Robert Morris by Mo-Reen; and the Kentucky Death Record of Margaret Ann Long, who died Mrs. Margaret Ann Parks.] Regarding birth dates, I tend to go with the birth dates listed on earlier census records. Why? Because, to me, young people are less inclined to lie to a census taker. In the 1870 census, Henry Travis was 22 (b. 1848), and Margaret Travis was 19 (b. 1851). [Ref: 1870 Kentucky, Daviess Co, Boston, Whitesville P.O., page 16.] Good luck, Barry Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
