I have been to the cemetery many times but it is really going down hill fast....several stones have been broke or knocked over and some are sinking into the ground and unreadable...and weeds grown up over some....such a shame....Peggy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am seeking information on the Goshen METHODIST Church in Ohio Co., Ky. I thind that Rone's book has information regarding the Goshen Baptist Church or the Goshen BAPTIST association. in Breckenridge County. I believe his book is - "A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Therein it is stated as follows: JAMES H. L. MOORMAN: This brother was the most prominent preacher in Goshen Association in his generation. He was a native of Virginia and was raised up to the ministry in Little Otter Church in Bedford County, Virgina. He began to "exercise" in public during a great revival in that church in 1801-1803 and was soon afterwards ordained to its pastoral care. About 1810 he moved to KENTUCKY and settled in Hardin County where he united with Bethel Church. But having been called to the care of Goshen Church in Breckenridge [sic] County, he moved to that vicinity in 1818. The county was thinly settled at the time and Goshen was the only Church,..... If this is not the book that you make reference to, then I would appreciate if you let me know. Thanks again for your generous offer to provide information. My mother who lives in Ohio County now, Peggy Hendrix Rogers, related through the Evans to D Whitecloud knows where the cemetary was at, outside of Whitesville in Daviess County accross from a church on a side road- I think she said HWY 176. Whitesville is a little town. She said the Evans Cemetary was bulldozed down but she said she knew Delilah Whiteclouds grave site was there. She has been there before but could not find her gravesite. Maybe hopefully my mom had the wrong graveyard but she is pretty up to date on these things, unlike me. If anyone else knows of anything hopeful about this that is different than my mother believes please email me. Thank you. Liberty Methodist Church is on Liberty Road (Hwy 2718) about 3 miles from Beaver Dam. Their is a "NEW" cemetery close by the Church? The "OLD LIBERTY CEMETERY" is about 200 yards down the road on the same side. When was the "NEW" cemetery placed in use ?? Are their still burials in the "OLD" cemetery? Is there a History of the Church? I was there many years ago and just want to be sure that I remember the cemeteries correctly. Thanks for any help. I think the 1876 death date you have in your post is probably mixed up with his son John's. Otherwise he would have been 114 when he died. John was a Rev. War pensioner. He stated that he was 71 yrs old when he applied in November of 1834. Also there is a Maddox DNA site with a pedigree chart posted that has this John Maddox. At the bottom of the page on the link below, documentation is cited. http://www.maddoxdna.com/pedigreecharts/kit_29381.htm hope this helps, Betsy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
