and LINDSAY, ZEHRUNG, WOODARD, WILLIAMS, STOUGHTON in Ohio. Hello Everyone, I am researching OLDFIELD and associated families going back to Kentucky in 1805. I am at a 'brick wall' with my 3g grandfather Joseph OLDFIELD. In part, his obituary says: ' Joseph Oldfield was born in the State of Kentucky, August 27,1805, died July 17, 1884, aged 78 years, 10 months and 20 days. In his early youth, he with his parents removed to West Virginia where, at the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah McKelfresh.' It IS possible that his father was either JESSE OLDFIELD or JOSEPH OLDFIELD. I have no clue as to what county of Kentucky he was born in. As many would agree, that would be half the problem solved. >From a fellow researcher, Clark, Montgomery, Floyd counties dating from 1794 to 1810 are my most likely areas. I pick up a lot of OLDFIELD history from south and central Ohio as well as the WV area 1800 - 1835 especially Brooke, Ohio and Hancock counties of WV. Although beginning in Ohio's Hocking Hills State Park area (Benton and Starr Townships) I am also researching many of the surrounding counties including: Ross, Athens, Fairfield, Franklin, Richland, Marion, Montgomery and Muskingum. Ohio towns include: Logan, South Bloomingville, Lancaster, Enterprise, Benton, Columbus, Mansfield, Zanesville, Rockbridge, Athens, Akron, Tarlton, Circleville, Laurelville, Ilesboro and others. Many associated families include: BEERY, BURGOON, BURNS, CHILCOTE, CLARK, COOK, COOPER, HOY, ILES, LINDSAY, LOWERY, MARTIN , MAUK, MCCONNELL, MCELFRESH, MIRE, PUCKETT, READY, SANDERSON, SATER, SCOT, SKIVELY, SPRING, STOUGHTON, STARKL(E)Y, STROOP, WILLIAMS, WOODARD, ZEHRUNG. The time period I am researching begins in Ohio in 1834 around Franklin, Muskingum and Hocking counties, to the present but mainly between 1860's to the 1950's. Any one recognizes these names associated with the above towns, counties or surnames? *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Jim Oldfield Jr. oldfield@oldfield.org http://www.oldfield.org
I am looking for info on Mamie MILLER, b. abt. 1879, daughter of James E. MILLER and Mary Rebecca CHINN of Ohio County. She married Will ALLEN and they had Ernest (Red), Gladys, and Lee. Red married Luzetta ?, nickname Johnnie. They lived in Colorado during the 1940's and 50's, and divorced at some point. I have no other info for Gladys. Lee married Ruth ?. Mamie was my great-aunt. Will's sister, Myrtle, married Mamie's brother, Robert D. MILLER twice, first abt. 1906, divorcing after a year, then marrying him again abt. 1960 after his second wife, Jane Stewart, died. Randie

Mr. Davis: Last we communicated April 25 and 27th, 2000, you had sent me info on Joel ELLIS. -------------------------- Here is some genealogy I have for a Joel Ellis who died in Daviess County. I don't know if it connects to your line. 1. Joel Ellis born ___ 00 1784, married Oct 22 1806, in Gallatin County, Kentucky, Polly Smith, (daughter of James Smith and Betty Sanders). Joel died ___ 00 1870, Daviess County, Kentucky. The same Joel Ellis that married Mary D. Blanton? ----------------- I have been lucky enough to find out some more info about my William ELLIS and wife Adeline FANT that were married in Gallatin Co, Ky 1835 and moved into Ohio Co by 1840. After they both die in 1854 and 1856, their younger children were divided up and sent to live with relatives. I have found a wonderful lady who found some guardian records of their children. Could this be the same Joel ELLIS??????????? Do any of these other names look familiar? ELLIS CHILDREN: Jenetta and Polly Ann are listed with Joel ELLIS as their guardian in the guardian records. Theodore's guardian is Isah CRAIG whose wife was Nancy P. ELLIS. Helen, Adaline, and Sarah E. (Sally) have as their guardian Henry BALTZELL. In the 1860 census Adaline is living with James SMITH who married Alhalia FANT. She is 8 yrs old. She married Pendleton SWAIN on 30 June 1872. Theodore is living with Isah CRAIG. He married Altha D. CHAPMAN 1 December 1869. Genetti ELLIS married Thomas N. BERRYMAN on 4/8/1863. Sarah E. ELLIS (Sally) married Shelby BAKER on 10/28/1869 and Thomas E. NALL on 11/16/1873. The administrator of the estate was Wm J. BERRY. Helen is also listed as having Aloxir C. ELLIS as guardian. The estate papers for William were dated 1854. The guardianship papers for Helen, Sarah and Shelby were dated 2 March 1861. -------------------- Please let me know if there are any connections. Yours, Klaryse
Hello! Lilly B. PATTERSON was born 10/25/1862 Ky. She married my g grndfather, William Nathaniel ELLIS on 6/9/1880 at Rockport, Spencer Co, Ind. Then, they went back to Yelvington, Daviess Co, Ky to live with his family. Lilly's death cert lists her father as William PATTERSON, birthplace:Ky. Mother:Unknown Birthplace:Unknown. I have seen Lilly's name all different ways on different records. Lilly/Lillie/Lillian/Lillien. I wonder if her father's middle name was William and that's what he went by was "William" instead of his real first name. Can you help me? J legans wrote: > > Hi! I have heard the name Lillie B. Hello Phil, The only CHAPMAN I have married into my ELLIS line. Altha D. CHAPMAN married Theodore ELLIS b:1845. They were married 12/1/1869 and are listed on the 1870 Ohio Co Ky census, Town of hartford Precingt page 13 (stamp indicates page 506). Wish I could be of more help, Sorry. Oh Denyce, That would be great! I can't tell you how much this means to me. Would you, please, check 1870 Ohio Co for my ELLIS's? I have lost them prior to 1880 Daviess Co, Ky tracking by census. Your info would help to verify what I have so far. I have a copy of the 1880 Daviess Co census, but, I don't know if they are even in Daviess Co in 1870. They might be in Ohio Co or Hancock Co in 1870. I did find who my Wm P. ELLIS's brothers and sisters married through on line info and on the 1870 Ohio Co census'. Jenetta ELLIS married Thomas BERRYMAN. I think she is buried in the CHINN cemetery. Adeline ELLIS married Pendleton SWAIN. Theodore ELLIS married Altha D. CHAPMAN. I just can't find anything definite on Wm P. and Sarah/Sally THOMAS ELLIS for 1870. Wm P.'s parents: Wm and Adeline FANT ELLIS are supposedly buried in Ohio Co, Ky, but, I haven't been able to find them yet. Might you have any leads? I did find Adeline's father, Wm P. FANT in Ohio Co for 1860. I even got a copy of his will, but, nothing on my ELLIS's. Diane, Sorry to hear about your computer troubles. It's not fun. I'll be here when you can send the ELLIS file you have. I have not found any SPARKS yet. Sorry. Have you found out yet what Lettie is short for? This is what I have on the THOMAS family, I'm not even sure which one is the right THOMAS family that my Sarah is really from. Sarah(Sally) THOMAS b:1/27/1838 + William P. ELLIS on 9/14/1857 in Ohio Co, Ky. Sarah died 3/30/1897 and is buried w/William in the Kelly Cemetery at Maceo, Ky (Daviess Co.) Their marriage records shows her given name as Sally THOMAS. I have found a Sarah THOMAS in both Hancock and Ohio Counties in Kentucky in 1850 as just about the right age. Since Sarah/Sally THOMAS ELLIS was born in 1838, she would be 11 or 12 in 1850. THOMAS family 1850 Hancock Co, Ky census: THOMAS, Doctor S. 38-blacksmith b:1812? Margaret 39 1811? William S.14 1836? My great grandfather, James Elson Miller, died Aug. 13, 1918 in Ohio County and is buried in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. I wrote to the State Vital Statistics bureau rerquesting his death certifivate so i can determine who his parents were and where he was born, and was informed that there was no death certifivate on file for him. The State said that perhaps the funeral home had forgotten to file it. I wrote to Wm. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam to see if they had it. No luck. I asked my Dad and he said that there had been a Chinn Funeral Home that had probably handled the arrangements since this Chinn was a cousin to James's wife, Mary Rebecca Chinn. I have been unable to find anything about this funeral home, and Dad siad it had gone out of business several years ago. Can anyone help me or offer suggestions about how I can find what I'm looking for? Randie
