"Yes, Virginia, there really was such a thing as a Poorhouse! It was not just something your parents made up, like a boogeyman, to frighten you into saving your money and spending carefully and to discourage you from making excessive, greedy demands on the family budget. County Poorhouses dotted the United States throughout most of the 1800s. " Exerpt from the Main Page The Poorhouse Story http://www.poorhousestory.com/

Dear Researchers, David C. Westerfield married Martha A. Early- who were her parents? Grandparents, Brothers and Sisters. the reason I ask is William Early and Rachel Sherrod had a daughter Mary Ann Early who married George D. Hohimer, James Bradford Clark, and Nimrod B. Wilson. a James L. Early married Susan J. Langley on 6 Oct 1863, Ohio County, KY, she was a daughter of Clement Langley and Jane Sutton. Zolver Clark married Perlie M. Early on 15 Jan 1901 Ohio County, KY. I would love to connect all these Early Family members together.
Looking for a William Bunch who had a son John William b: 1849. Would anyone have a 1850 census who look to see if they were on it. Thanks DEB
Dear researchers, Do I have this correct? were there other children? who did Bartholomew Langley born ? married Jane Burden 7 Jan 1837 Ohio County, KY belong to? Clement Langley and Jane Sutton marred 13 Aug 1835 in Ohio County, KY they had: Matilda A. Langley born abt 1835 married Joseph Neighbors on 7 Jan 1856 Ohio County, KY Sarah E. Langley abt 1838 married Willis G. Cobb 4 Oct 1857 In Hartford, Ohio County, KY Susan J. Langley born abt 1843/44 married James L. Early on 6 Oct 1863 Ohio County, KY Mary Elizabeth Langley born abt 1840-42 in Grayson County, KY married John Hiram Clark 14 Dec 1871 Clement Langley then married Susanna Neighbors on 10 Jan 1848 they had: James W. Langley born abt 1849 These maybe twins born same year. William J. Langley born abt 1849 David L. Langley born abt 1851 married Abraham Elizabeth Clark on 17 Apr 1873 In Ohio County, KY Joseph F. Langley born abt 1855 in Ohio County, KY Clement G. Langley born abt 1860 married 21 Jan 1879 in Ohio County, KY. to Margaret A. Rogers he was still living in 1880. Susan L. Langley born ? I don't know where I got this (May be an error) I do not show any son by the name of LANGLEY, Milton S. WM 13 step-son S FARM HAND KY/KY/ARK And if Milton S. Langley isn't her son, but a Step son then it can't be Clement Langley's son based on when he married his wifes, and when this child was born, So I don't know where he belongs. There may have been other children from each marriage but I don't know who they were. Susanna A. Neighbors (Langley) was married to Hoover Neighbors by 21 Oct 1869 in Ohio County, KY and by 1 Aug 1873 she was married to John Payton Taylor. So she is accounted for in 1850, 1860, and 1880, but must have been someplace else with Hoover Neighbors in 1870.
Dear Researchers, these are children of William Hamilton and Eliza Padgett. The Polly Howard appears to be a Polly Johnson who married Samuel Howard. Where did the marriage take place? Who were the parents of this Albert Clark? all three Hamilton brothers and sisters married Clark's and were living next door to one another. Dear Researchers, Clement Langley married 1st to Jane Sutton on 13 Aug 1835 in Ohio County, KY, he married 2nd to a Susanna Neighbors on 10 Jan 1848 in Butler County, Ohio. but this 2nd wife was not a Neighbors by maiden name, She aparently married 1st to a Neighbors, 2nd to Clement Langley and third to John Taylor. The reason I say this is that on 1880 Census this: NEIGHBORS, Hester WF 10 step-dau S KY/KY/ARK was listed as a Step daughter. That would mean that this Susanna A. was previously married to a Neighbors. Please help! What was her real maiden Name? and Who were her parents? John Ray Bartlett married Annie May Hall in Ohio County, Kentucky prior to 1900. Does anyone have information that shows this marriage and also might show her parents name? Thanks for any information you can give me. Janice Jones
I have just made some major inroads into this line, but as usual I now have more questions than answers LOL! Jesse Craven was appt. one of the first justice of the peace and an administrator for the Hartford Academy when Ohio Co, KY was made a co in 1798. His son (also Jesse) was born in "Powell's Valley" (exactly where I haven't yet figured out) in about 1784-1790. THis second Jesse Craven married a Rebecca Tarleton in 1802 in Ohio Co and a third Jesse married an Ann Nanny in 1832. About 1835 most of this clan then moved to Green Co, IN. ANyone wanting to share info or help enlighten me about any of these lines or related early history of the area would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely Nancy DeVore Williams
