There is Amanda Smith b abt 1849 daughter of John and Elmira Smith and Amanda Smith b abt 1852 daughter of Elijah and Leanna Smith. Amanda (1852) matches the one married to Samuel Huff and William Martin. This Amanda is found married to Samuel in 1870 census and then found married to William Martin in 1880 and 1900. I am not sure which Amanda was married to Jesse Wilson or William Acton. Betsy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [KYOHIO] Circuit Court, Quarterly Court, and Police Court records
    2. John Vice
    3. I recently just joined the Fleming County, Kentucky mailing list and saw several messages concerning the moving of the Fleming County Circuit Court (as well as all court records including the old quarterly court and police court records). The records held by the County Clerk (wills & probate records, land & deed records, mortgages, county court order books, and marriages) are not included in this move. With the moving of the Fleming County Circuit Court records, Caren Prater is set to leave her job on Sept. 28 and the information I am being told is that the Fleming County records are set to be sent to Frankfort sometime in September (no exact date known right now). As many of you may already know, Caren holds a unique job in the state of Kentucky as a County Genealogist (or Archivist). She assists people who come to Fleming County looking for their ancestries, looking for their ancestral homeplaces, looking for their ancestral family graveyards, and also helping them look thru county records (including Circuit Court records) for data about their ancestors. Caren is probably the only person in the State of Kentucky that has this job. She is employed by the Fleming County Fiscal Court. I have gotten information that only 8 out of 120 Kentucky counties have still got their circuit court records in their home counties (all the other counties have had theirs sent to Frankfort). These 8 counties are: FLEMING BRACKEN GREEN CALDWELL TAYLOR EDMONSON OHIO LOGAN As you will notice, I am sending this message to the mailing lists for each of the 8 counties listed above and also to the Kentucky mailing lists. Can anyone who knows for sure tell the following?: Is the listing of the 8 counties correct as to them still having their Circuit Court records still in their home counties (it may be that some of these 8 counties listed above may have their records already sent to Frankfort)? Is there other counties (other than or in addition to) these 8 Counties that have their Circuit Court records still in their home counties? As some of you know, there has been some resistance in Fleming Co. to the moving of these records to Frankfort. >From what I have found out this all started with the voting in of a Constitutional Amendment about 1975-1977 that eliminated the County Judge as an actual judge and replaced the quarterly court with the district court. The handling of wills & probate was taken from county court to district court. It made all courts in Kentucky under the administration of the then newly created Administrative Offices of the Courts. It also began the movement of Circuit Court Records to a central place in Frankfort. I have heard of plans, not sure if correct, to concentrate these records all in one place in Frankfort which would be safer as far as fire, flood, winds, temperature, etc. is concerned. I don't know if there is an effort to microfilm these records or not. I have myself seen some (but not all) indexes & order books microfilmed, but have not noticed any case files (the real "meat" and value of these records) microfilmed. It would also be useful, if you can, to get the 2 RETENTION OF RECORDS SCHEDULES put out the A.O.C. (Administrative offices of the Courts). One retention schedule covers the period before 1977 and the other schedule covers the period after 1978. It tells what records are to be retained, etc. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a web site that had these schedules to share with you. If you would want these schedules, you would have to write or contact the A.O.C. or the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives.
