I found an image of the following transcribed letter on line at Heritage Quest (Revolutionary War Files). There are 12 images in total. This letter is a transcription of two of those images. In Lineage Lines, Jan. 4, 1996, Jerry Long said that this Joseph Ford MIGHT be the son of John Ford & Ann Talbott. May 24, 1932 Joseph Ford S - 15429 Mrs John S. McCell Catlettsburg Kentucky Dear Madam Reference is made to your request for the record of Joseph Ford, a soldier of the Revolution. The data furnished herein were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim, S-15429, based upon the military service of Joseph Ford. He was born in 1757 in Frederick County, Maryland. While liing in Burke County, North Carolina, he enlisted and served with the North Carolina troops as follows: from Sept.3, 1777, until March 18, 1778 as private in Captain Benjamin Cleveland's Company and in Captain Bartlett's Company of Light Horse in Colonel Francis Locke's Regiment, was in an engagement with the Cherokee Indians and burned their towns; from April 1, 1778 until October, 7, 1778, as private in Captain Thomas Whitson's Company in Colonel Charles McDowell's Regiment and was in an engagement with the Cherokee Indians, from October 16, 1778, until April 28, 1779. in a Company of North Carolina troops under Lieutenant Carthy. While living in Washington County, North Carolina, he was commissioned in July, 1781, as a Lieutenant of Captain Jesse Boddy's company in Colonel John Sevier's North Carolina Regiment, was in a battle at Monk's Corner, South Carolina, and was discharged February 12, 1782. About 1809 he moved to Floyd County, Kentucky to --?-- which was later Pike County. He was allowed pension on his application executed February 25, 1834, while living in Pike County, Kentucky. Nancy Jane RALPH on 23 May 1839 Sarah Alice WESTERFIELD on 14 Jan 1846 Laura WESTERFIELD on 14 Jan 1846 I doubt he married 2 women on the same day. There is a record for Laura and David but none that I know of for the others.
