I did some checking on Stratton/Stratten in OHio Co. There was a Robbert Stratton in living in Ohio Co in 1880. Per his death certificate his parents were John Thomas Stratten and Katherin Francis Pennick, both from VA. I finally found a Thomas Stratten age 27 in AL in 1850. His wife is listed as Catherine age 18. They have 2 sons, Robert 3 and David 1. 1860 AL I found J.T. Stratton 43 with wife Cahterine 26. Children listed are: James 11 David 9 Mary 7 Susan 5 John 4 Daniel 6mos Frances 6mos There is also children David 12, Franklin 11, Ellen 7 and Daniel 4. Ellen and Daniel were born in MS. I believe the last four children are probably neice and nephews. I can't locate them in 1870. Information given on Robert's death certificate has his family moving to KY around 1865. Also on the 1880 census Robert has brother Joseph P. age 13 and sister Martha E. age 10 living with him. Per the Ohio Co. marriage records there are marriages for: Robert J. to Mary Alford John T. to Hester Shields Susan A. to J.P. Daugherty Mary A. to Burrill Shields Though birthplaces seem to jump around, I believe that John and Catherine were from VA and their first 7 children were born in AL. With all of this, I believe that the Mary that appears in 1860 AL census is the same person that married Burrill Shields, unless someone can show otherwise. His parents were Isaphena Evans and Joseph L. Vandiver. On December 17, 1917, in Butler County, Kentucky, Reuben married Pearl May Carmichael. Pearl was born in Grayson County on August 30, 1887. Her parents were Andrew J. Carmichael and Laura Leona Evans. Reuben and Pearl had one daughter: Helen Vandiver was born on August 15, 1918 Pearl died on January 28, 1921 and Reuben died on August 24, 1923, both in Kentucky. This information from Jan Westmorland on Worldconnect.com. He is related to me through Isaphena Evans, so if you need any info on that line, I can take her back (thru the White line) to Henry White in the 1700s.
