Earp was Harriet Emeline Dunkley. She was born on May 6, 1827 in Fairfield Co, SC, the daughter of Green Berry Lee Dunkley and Izett Long. Her family moved to Fayette Co, TN in 1833 and on to Texas in 1839. She married in 1843 at age 16 to E. R. Vredenburgh in Nacogdoches Co, TX. By the 1850 census, she is married to Cullen R. Earp. She was widowed in October 1865 soon after Cullen returned from the Civil War. He was only 38 when he died. 15 years later, she married Arnold Milner in Rusk Co, TX, but he died soon after. Harriet Emeline died on March 2, 1909 and is buried in the Wright Cemetery in Henderson, Rusk Co, TX, near her sister Isetta Elizabeth Dunkley Wright. Harriet is listed in the 1900 census as having given birth to one child no longer living, but she is never listed with children in any census between 1850-1880 indicating that the child died an infant. Cullen and Harriet left no descendants. The child reported may even have been ! from her first marriage. Their childlessness may have allowed them to help the Castleberry children in 1859. I believe Cullen was probably their uncle. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Excellent! It will take a few days to sift through all of it. Right up front I see one thing that doesn't quite look right: Sarah "Sallie" Harris (b. 1834) m. in 1878 (in Daviess Co) to William W. Lanham ((b. 1852). Unfortunately, the 1880 census does not corroborate this marriage. Instead, it shows William W. Lanham b. 1852 KY married to Mary E. ? b. 1854 KY. [See 1880 Census of Daviess Co, Oakford District, ED 177, page 18 (stamped 477), stop 175.] And thanks for your kind offer of further info on Asbury Bryant's descendants. But I must decline. I already have more than enough information on him. Perhaps another reader of this board will take you up on this offer. I found 3. Henry lists his mother as Polly John b in Ohio Co. Margaret lists her mother as Mary Foreman. Fannie Ellen lists her mother as Polly Johnson. After looking at some census records, I think you really should start looking at James Johnson as the father of your Polly. I found in 1860 Cader and Polly are living next to James and Debby Johnson. I went back to 1850 and found James and Deborah with daughter Mary age 16. This Mary matches the age of your Polly. In 1870 Cader is still living next to James and Debby. Also living next to Cader is his sister Sarah, who married Cortez Bean. James and Debby have a daughter named Ellen. Mary "Polly" may have named Frannie Ellen after her sister. Also on the birth register for 1857, Margaret Foreman's mother is listed as Mary J. They would have married between 1850 and 1860 because Cader was still with his parents in Grayson Co. in 1850. I believe that Polly's last name was JOHNSON. I have a data sheet my mother created, with Baxter Riley listed as a source, that her name was Sally Pracilla JOHNSON. It lists her father as John Lowrey JOHNSON, and that she had a brother David Lowery JOHNSON. The record shows Sally (or Polly) having died in 1893 and is buried in the FOREMAN Cemetery in Ohio Co. Her brother David was born in Georgia and is buried in Livermore, KY. David had two wives Moonflower (a Creek Indian) and later Emma DENNIS. There are additional notes written on the back of this sheet (source unknown) that Sally's parents were instead Edmond JOHNSON and Lucy HOUSTON, "the youngest sister of Sam Houston of Texas." Other than the fact that Sam HOUSTON did not have a sister Lucy, I have not been able to substantiate or discredit any of the above information with historical records. If anyone has any leads on any of the names listed above, please help me out. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
