    3. >Helen, Thomas "Old Stonehammer" Metcalfe was governor of Kentucky from >1828-1832. And his home, "Forest Retreat" (now a bed and breakfast) is located on US 68 between the turnoff to Carlisle and Ellisville. Think he might be buried there. My connection is that he sent letters to the pension folks testifying to my ancestor's (Edward Vivion Brooking) service in the War of 1812. When I requested pension information from NARA, I got the unexpected pleasure of copies of two letters written by Thomas Metcalfe on behalf of my gggg-grandfather. Others mentioned in the letters (with pending bounty land applications) include: John Standiford Mrs. Mary Berry, widow of Col. Robert Berry Abraham Shultz (or Shelty) - difficult to make out George Blake Henry Bramlette Nancy (I think) Barlow Samuel McKune Jeremiah Terry Dick Forston researching SNAPP, BROOKING, HERNDON, ALLISON(?), HARVIN, SHEPHERD in Nicholas/Fleming/Mason Counties
