My connection is that he sent letters to the pension folks testifying to my ancestor's (Edward Vivion Brooking) service in the War of 1812. When I requested pension information from NARA, I got the unexpected pleasure of copies of two letters written by Thomas Metcalfe on behalf of my gggg-grandfather. Others mentioned in the letters (with pending bounty land applications) include: John Standiford Mrs. Mary Berry, widow of Col. Robert Berry Abraham Shultz (or Shelty) - difficult to make out George Blake Henry Bramlette Nancy (I think) Barlow Samuel McKune Jeremiah Terry Dick Forston researching SNAPP, BROOKING, HERNDON, ALLISON(?), HARVIN, SHEPHERD in Nicholas/Fleming/Mason Counties
