Hello list....I am researching the John Saylor/Sailor family. I believe they lived in Nicolas County in 1810 and he perhaps died there sometime soon after the census. He is on the 1810 census. He is not listed in the 1820. Nor does it appear that this same Sailor/Saylor family is in Montgomery or Bath counties for 1820. Is there a death index for the early 1800's? Is there a will index for this time? If he had minor children and a male guardian was appointed how would one locate such records? One daughter married in 1811 and her guardian was John Minear with mother Elizabeth Sailor listed. It is also possible that there were two small girls in this family and after the mother died they went to live with a family by the name of Brown. Does anyone know of a Brown family living in Nicolas County during this time. If the girls used Sailor-Brown as their name at a later time would this have gone through the courts? The names are Cassie Sailor Brown, and Elizabeth A. Sailor Brown. The John Saylor families....sons and grandsons lived in near by Montgomery and Bath Counties from about 1800 through 1830. I have had these counties searched with very little results. I am hoping that Nicholas County will hold the records I need for this family. Any help, suggestions, ideas will be most appreciated. Thank you in advance. Peggy pegle@ipa.net
