    1. [KYNICHOL] KY research? & Samuel HAMILTON; Bourbon Co, KY

    3. Hi, While I have been on other lists, I am new to this list and new to KY genealogy. I am posting this to several other KY lists so I apologize if you get this more than once. I have traced my HAMILTON line back to Nicholas Co, KY (I understand that Nicholas Co was separated form Bourbon Co in the late 1790s). I have a Samuel Luther HAMILTON (born about 1818 in KY) (possibly a Minister) married to Mary Grant EWARD (born 1819 Nicholas Co, KY) in Nicholas Co, KY in 1846. I have recently found that a Samuel HAMILTON & Jane SWINNEY (married 27 July 1797 in Bourbon Co, KY) may be the parents of Samuel Luther. My question is this. How do I go about proving that Samuel & Jane are Samuel's parents? I know there are no birth certificates for that time frame. Would there be baptismal records and probate records from that time period still available in KY? Where would I look for those records? Would Samuel & Mary's and Samuel & Jane's marriage record possibly show their parents? I have checked the early census records for Nicholas Co, KY (still need to get a hold of Bourbon Co). 1810 showed no Samuel Hamilton (only Thomas & John). 1820 shows 13 HAMILTON families. There is 1 Samuel who has a son under 10, and the head of household and oldest female could be the parents. In 1830 there are no Samuel HAMILTONs, but there are 2 Samuel HAMs. On is definitely not who I am looking for (age doesn't match up for either of my Samuel's), but one may or may not be Samuel Sr. In 1840 I found no Samuel HAMILTON's, and one Samuel HAM (that matched up with the Samuel HAM above that didn't fit). In 1850 my Samuel L & Mary Grant EWARD are listed with children. Does this family look familiar to anyone, or can anyone give me any advice on how to proceed with this family? Any help of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kris Goszka in VA
