Barbara thanks anyway. Jim
Jim, I sent the following message to Carolyn about Joseph HOPKINS. I also recommend posting to the Bath and Montgomery Co. Rootsweb or KYGENWEB sites. "My book on Nicholas Co. marriages, 1800-1815 shows a Joseph A. HOPKINS married Margaret MURPHY on 28 Jul 1812 in Nicholas Co, Ky. My book on Nicholas Co, Ky 1810-1840 census shows Joseph A. HOPKINs and family on the 1820 Nicholas Co. census, but they are not shown on the 1810, 1830, or 1840 census. No HOPKINS surnames are in the 1810 Nicholas Co. Census. HOPKINS in 1820 Nicholas Co. census: George W. HOPKINS, Joseph A. HOPKINS, Josiah HOPKINS, Joslin HOPKINS, Robert HOPKINS, William HOPKINS, and another William HOPKINS. HOPKINS in 1830 Nicholas Co. census: Ephraim HOPKINS, Herod HOPKINS, Isaac HOPKINS, Josiah HOPKINS, Joslin HOPKINS, Peter HOPKINS HOPKINS in 1840 Nicholas Co. census: Elizabeth HOPKINS, John HOPKINS, Joslin HOPKINS, Moses HOPKINS These HOPKINS families are probably members of the Bath Co, Ky HOPKINS families. Bath Co. adjoins Nicholas Co. and was formed from Montgomery Co. in 1811. I don't have a copy of the following will, but you could get a copy from the Bath Co. Courthouse: Bath Co, KY Will Bk A, pg. 358 - Will of Francis HOPKINS My wife, Ann; my sons: Richard, John, JOSEPH, Moses, Francis (plantation where Nelson Rice lives) and David; my daughters: Sarah Davis, Betsy Moseley, Peace Hughes, and Anna McDonnald; my grandson, James McCormac, son of Adam. John McNab and Allen Gudgell, Exe. Written: 25 July 1823 Witnesses: James T. Duvall and Peter R. Gill Probated: 19 August 1823 Francis HOPKINS, Sr. and Francis HOPKINS, Jr. are shown in Montgomery Co, KY in the Second Census of Kentucky in 1800. Can't confirm this is your Joseph HOPKINS, but it probably is. Should warn you that many of the Montgomery County records burned. Look for military records. If I find anything else, I'll let you know." Barbara O'Nan JGravdiger@aol.com wrote: > > Do you know what Joseph Hopkins Father and Mother name was? > > Jim Gray, Whittaker, Hopkins, Adkins
Jim, I don't have a copy of the Shelby Co. Cemetery book, so am unable to help you. However, the KYGENWEB - Shelby Co. site has a list of volunteers. Some have the cemetery book and will do look-ups for you. I believe the cemetery book lists the location of each cemetery. Shelby Co, Ky was formed from Jefferson Co, Ky in 1792. The John WHITAKER who died in 1787 would be found in Jefferson Co. records. You should also search Jefferson Co. records for information on your other early ancestors. Kentucky became a state in 1792. From 1776 to 1792, it was known as Kentucky Co, Virginia. The three original counties (Jefferson, Fayette, and Lincoln) were formed in 1780. Jefferson Co. records begin in 1780; Shelby Co. records begin in 1792. Joyle, I currently have on loan from LDS the microfilms of Nicholas County Will Books 1800 - 1839 and other court records 1818-1846. I happened to make a few notes on the Roberts family because of another list member who was looking for a Roberts. While I'm not sure that I have anything of genealogical significance, these are the notes I took: At the estate sale of Robert McDowel, June 1811, purchases were made by John Roberts and Henly ROberts. Henly Roberts witnessed a will for Daniel Cassady in 1814 and acted as security in the administration of that will. The estate of Redding Roberts was settled in 1827. The sale bill of that estate, dated 27 Jun 1827, showed many purchases by H. Roberts and also some by N. ROberts, and John Roberts. The administratix of Redding Roberts estate was Isabella Roberts. Thats all I have, but the next time I get to the LDS center I'll check again, I have use of the films for another month. Jim, Clear Creek is located in Quadrant I. It runs from Northern Shebyville toward Eminence and Pleasureville in Henry Co, Kentucky. I live in Shelby Co. Who are you looking for? Jim, The only information I have been able to find so far has been Milton's father (Joseph) mentioned by name and occupation in a publication dated 1883 "Counties of Howard and Tipton, Indiana - Historical and Biographical". Several articles were written about Milton because of his contribution to the ministry and education system. The article said that Joseph was 'a talented lawyer for that day.' I have been unable to find which Joseph Hopkins was the father of Milton Bledsoe Hopkins; at her death his Mother was 'Jane Peters'. I have been unable so far to find out her maiden name and who she married after Joseph Hopkins. I wish I had more....... Carolyn
Do you know what Joseph Hopkins Father and Mother name was? Jim Gray, Whittaker, Hopkins, Adkins
Barbara, Looking for Birth and Death date for: John Whitaker D: Mar-1798 Mary McComas Whitaker D: 1802 John Whitaker D: 1787 Abraham Whitaker D: Nov-1814 Hannah Whitaker Standiford D: Jesse Whitaker D: Sep-1869 Elijah Whitaker D: 1840 Have been told that they were buried in Clear Creek Cemt? What can you tell about them? Jim
Hi, I am still searching for a connection to my Milton Bledsoe Hopkins. I know he moved with his mother Jane to Rush Co, IN. With the help of a wonderful lady, Sharleen, I have a clue and a possible connection to the ALEXANDER surname. 1. Does anyone on the list have information about a Jane Alexander born about 1760 - 1780? 2. Does anyone have a Jane Alexander that may have married a Peters in Rush Co. IN or in Nicholas Co. KY then moved to Rush Co. IN.? 3. Does anyone have information on David Peters born in NJ approx. 1768 ? What I know: I know Milton's mother Jane remarried a farmer after husband Joseph passed away. Milton's Mother's name at her death was 'Jane PETERS'. On the Rush Co. IN Census for 1850 there is: David Peters age 82, NJ, farmer and wife Jane (Alexander) age 61 KY and son Abraham Alexander age 18 IN. On the Rush Co. IN census for 1840: David Peters, 1 male (70-80) 1 male (5-10) 1 female (50-60) Thank you for any help or information that may help me make a connection to my Milton Bledsoe HOPKINS. Carolyn
Bob, How are you going to ship them? Book rate? UPS? Can you give us buyers an option? I would gladly send you $3.20+ to have the book sent Priority Mail to me rather than at book rate, which takes forever. -- Helen Bob Francis wrote: > To all who ordered the Perrin book. Can anyone tell me in Shelby County,Ky were a place called Clear Creek is ? Jim Research Whitaker
Linda, I appreciate your offer!!!! Here is what I have so far: 1. Milton Bledsoe HOPKINS born Nicholas Co, KY - 1821, moved to Rush Co, IN ca 1827 after his father JOSEPH HOPKINS passed away - cannot find any information on Joseph. 2. I have located his Mother's gravesite in Ladoga, IN. She is buried with her grandson John O'Kane HOPKINS, his wife Eliza Martin and daughter Grace. The gravestone of Milton's Mother reads - 'Jane PETERS died August 15, 1865 - 86 years, 6 months, 14 days - Mother of Milton B. HOPKINS'. 3. I do not know how many times Jane (Milton's Mother) was married - no husband is buried with her unless it is an unmarked grave). 4. I do not know if Jane had another name such as Mary Jane or Martha Jane or Margaret Jane, etc. 5. The only information I have are articles that have been written about Milton calling his father by the name of Joseph. I have no records, so this could possibly have been a misprint. I would not have had his Mother's name had I not gone to Ladoga to find the gravesite of my husband's Grandfather, John O'Kane HOPKINS. Thank you so much for your offer of help. I will reread the information you sent and will keep it for records in case at some point I am able to connect with the HOPKINS names you so kindly sent. Thanks, Carolyn

We learned that they were married to Hopkins and several are in the Republican Cemetery buried with the Harney's. I have a small booklet that I copied at the library that has some Hopkins names connected with the Harney's. One is Selby Harney mar Hannah Hopkins. They had 10 children. Another - Nancy married Samuel Hopkins and they had 9 children. Samuel was the son of Ezekiel and Sarah Hazard Hopkins. The ch were Eliza, Mary Hull, Rachel Harriet, Selby Harney, Ginnethan, b Oct 25, 1795 and m Henrietta Gosney and second Elizabeth Gosney Oct 4, 1827, Isabel b Jan 5, 1798 and d Apr 18, 1872, Eleanor Abnetta b May 14, 1800, d Nov 14 1808, Samuel Adams b May 14, 1809 and John Wesley b Oct 27 1811 and d March 17, 1879. If you have some names, maybe I can see what else may be of interest to you. Hope this helps. Linda
Thanks again....I will take your advice. I appreciate your help. Carolyn
Carolyn, You might want to post to both Bath and Montgomery counties. Bath Co. was formed from Montgomery in 1811. Frances Hopkins Jr. & Sr. are in Montgomery Co. in 1800 along with Henry, Robert, and William Hopkins. Barbara AGR8M8@aol.com wrote: > > Barbara, > Thank you so much....you have been so helpful. To all who ordered the Perrin book. A reminder that I will be shipping the books sometime after August 15. The publisher said that the books should arrive at my home during that week.
