    3. Kay, Daniel Snapp was born about 1835. He would have been about 32 yrs. old when Rhoda Snapp was born. Angeline Shaw was born about 1837, making her age 30 at the time of Rhoda's birth. 3. Kay, I don't have a lot on these Feeback families as they are not my direct line. I am very interested in finding out more though. I have not connected the two families yet. Below is what I have so far. I don't find a Rhoda Snapp in my files but I will look further because I know I've run across that name. Joanna kimjo@ccrtc.com FEEBACK FAMILY #1 Descendants of John Feeback Generation No. 1 1. John1 Feeback was born ca. 1787, and died 1850-1860. He married Nancy Richey 18 December 1812 in Nicholas Co. KY, daughter of Isaac Ritchie and Rebecca Powers. Notes for Nancy Richey: Nancy is listed with son Jackson in 1860 Nicholas Co. census, p 29, nos. 203 Children of John Feeback and Nancy Richey are: 2 i. Jackson2 Feeback, born ca. 1823. 3 ii. Aquilla Feeback, born ca. 1826. He married Julia Feeback 08 April 1853 in Nicholas Co. KY. 4 iii. Peter Feeback, born ca. 1830. 5 iv. Malinda Feeback. KY. She married Joseph Leonard McKinney, son of Foster McKinney and Amanda Hyatt. Notes for Joseph Leonard McKinney: It looks as if Joseph Mckinney was the only child to stay behind in KY when his mother Amanda moved to Indianapolis with the rest of the children after Foster died. He isn't on the 1910 Marion County IN census with Amanda and children. I don't find him in the 1910 Harrison County KY census either, unless he is on one of the unreadable pages. A son, Harlan, a daughter, Mollie (probably dau-in-law), and another dau. Hallie. I am looking for this Willis' parents. There is a Willis Kenney, 49, in the 1850 census with a son, Willis, 8. This would be the right age for my g-grandfather. But I have not been able to find any more documentation for the time inbetween to verify if this is the right one. Can anyone help? Kay

    2. Jean Dalrymple
    3. This was on a MS list that I belong to and thought that perhaps some of this information may help Tim and a few others.. Jeannie <>< -----Original Message----- From: English [mailto:english@c-zone.net] Sent: Monday, August 30, 1999 5:16 PM To: MSSTONE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Slave Records found in Natchez The following article was posted on another list of which I am a member by Alice Dauro. If you know of anyone researching their Mississippi African American roots, this is a must see. Please forward. >From Sun-Herald New Paper, Biloxi, MS Genealogists praise crucial link to the past KERRY WHIPPLE THE NATCHEZ DEMOCRAT NATCHEZ - Stephen Bryan, of brown coller, age about 25 years, weighs 150 lbs. Lewis Figg, of black coller, age about 27 years, weighs 160 lbs. William Ball, of black coller, age about 11 years, weighs 90 lbs. July Buckner and 3 children, of brown coller, age about 27 years, weighs 160 lbs. The records are chilling. Written in precise script on yellowing pages, they document the vital statistics of slaves brought from Kentucky to Mississippi just before the Civil War. The simply named Record Book was found in the basement of the Adams County Courthouse by Mississippi Department of Archives and History researchers and Chancery Clerk Tommy O'Beirne. The book, which had been rebound sometime this century, is a rare discovery - and could help some people trace more of their ancestry. Many of the slaves are listed by first and last name, and the names of the Kentucky owners are included as well. The records cover the period 1858-1861. "Mississippi required them to have an affidavit that would be signed by owners that they had not committed a felony and that they were of good character," O'Beirne said. "There are no other records in the state of Mississippi like this." "The documents aren't the only slave records in Mississippi, but they are the most comprehensive group researchers have found. "If you went back into the deed records, you would see occasionally references to slaves," O'Beirne said. "The inclusion of the slaves' first and last names is very rare." Any slaves brought into the state had to be certified, and a person offering them for sale had to be the legal owner, said state archivist Jim Pitts. "The 1870 census was the first document that included blacks by name - in the 1850 census slaves were merely numbers. That's about as far as most blacks can take their genealogy," Pitts said. "Having a book like this gives another generation back. It's something that's priceless for blacks who are doing their genealogy." A microfilm of the records is now housed at the Department of Archives and History and at the Adams County Chancery Clerks office, so anyone can look up the information without handling the rare records themselves. "It is very rare to find documentation of this sort from such an early time period," said Anne Webster, head reference librarian at the Department of Archives and History. "These records indicate surnames, and in many cases the slaves are listed in family groups. Using this information, genealogists may be able to determine the slaves' previous owners, thus tracing their families back another generation." The records also may provide valuable information about the slave trade. The Forks of the Road in Natchez was one of the largest slave trading sites in the South. Historians may be able to draw some conclusions about trade routes between Kentucky - where most of these slaves were moved from - and Mississippi, Webster said. The record book also contains justice court records and minutes from the board of police, the precursor to the board of supervisors. ginny ==== MSSTONE Mailing List ==== Thank you to those submitters of cemetery information - if you find your ancestor, make sure and let them know their work is appreciated. 1. [KYNICHOL] John MANN of Nicholas Co., KY
    2. Michele Colson
    3. I need help proving my husband’s MANN line. He is descended from Elizabeth Mann b. ca 1805 KY. Elizabeth had at least 3 illegitimate children: Angeline (his ancestor), Catharine, and Mary. Elizabeth married David DAVIS 13 Apr 1846 Nicholas Co., KY. I believe Elizabeth’s parents were John MANN & Elizabeth JONES of Nicholas Co, but I don’t know how to prove it. Here is what I know of this family & why I have arrive at this conclusion: 1. Elizabeth’s marriage bond states she was the daughter of John Mann Sr. of Nicholas Co. 2. In the 1840 Nicholas Co census, there were only 2 John Mann’s: John who m. Elizabeth Jones and their son, John Jr. In the 1850 Nicholas Co census, Elizabeth (Jones) Mann is living in her son Samuel’s household. John Sr. died 17 Oct 1846. 3. In the 1810 Nicholas Co census, after accounting for John & Elizabeth Mann’s known children, there are 2 additional females aged 10-16 and one female aged 0-10. 4. Elizabeth (Mann) Davis’ daughter Mary & Catharine Mann are living in her household in the 1850 Nicholas Co census. Daughter Angeline (age 13) and a David Mann (age 18) are in the household of Reuben D. & Mary Hall. This Reuben is probably the son of Reuben D. Hall & Anny Mann. Anny was the daughter of John Mann & Elizabeth Jones. All of this supports Elizabeth Mann as the daughter of John Mann & Elizabeth Jones. However, “The Family of Four Frontiers” states that Mary, David, Catharine and Angeline were the children of Jacob Mann & Mary Peyton. I have not seen this source personally (can’t find it anywhere), but another researcher has given me the details. This Jacob Mann was the son of Peter MANN & Barberry JONES and the nephew of John Mann & Elizabeth Jones. The information I have shows that Elizabeth (Mann) Davis was the daughter of John Mann Sr. I also have proof that Angeline Mann was the daughter of Elizabeth (Mann) Davis. I know of 2 researchers who have similar proof that the same Mary & Catharine Mann stated in above source as children of Jacob Mann were children of Elizabeth (Mann) Davis. Based on the information I have compiled, I am reasonably certain that Angeline Mann was the daughter of Elizabeth (Mann) Davis who was the daughter of John Mann Sr. of Nicholas Co., KY. How do I prove that this John Mann Sr is the John Mann who married Elizabeth Jones? Thank you, Michele Colson macolson@pacbell.net
