Thank you for the imput... there are a LOT of missing information in this book regarding cemeteries.... I have added yours.. Jeannie <>< -----Original Message----- From: Micah Gano [mailto:silverspoon98@email.msn.com] Sent: Sunday, October 17, 1999 6:56 AM To: KYNICHOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYNICHOL] Bethlehem Cemetery I visited Bethlehem Cemetery yesterday and wanted to share a couple of things with the list. First, there is a steel cable across the drive to the cemetery, so you have to park and walk up the hill. Before you get to the cemetery, you have to pass through a rather large junk yard. The cemetery is just beyond the junk yard, on the left. Second, the information in The History of Nicholas County is not complete when it comes to this cemetery. It's true that some of the stones are broken and unreadable, but there are quite a few that are in relatively good shape. I was looking for a particular stone, which I found in very good shape. This is the information which I copied from my ggg-grandfather's stone: Noah N. Varner, born 16 Oct 1809; died 11 Jul 1888 I also believe, based on an obituary from the Cynthiana Democrat, that Noah's second wife (Sarah Catherine Harney Varner, born 11 Jul 1836, died 28 Aug 1929) is buried at Bethlehem. However, I did not find a stone for her. A stone near Noah's was for Deniza G., wife of V. O. Earlywine, born 10 Apr 1866, died Apr (?) 1888. I am wondering if this was Noah and Sarah's daughter, as they had a child by the name Deniza. There is a stone foundation at the cemetery, which I assume belonged to a church. Does anyone have information about the church?
Hi, I just realized that I had not clarified something about the cemetery information that I posted a short time ago. The three names that I gave (Noah N. Varner, Sarah Catherine Harney Varner, and Deniza G. Earlywine) are NOT listed in The History of Nicholas County. I pencilled them in my book for further reference. Also, I took some pictures of Noah and Deniza's graves, as well as the stone foundation, if anyone is interested. Valarie

My wife has Gray/Grey ancestors, but we have not been able to match them with your previous postings. Your message below, however, has too many matches to be ignored. Wife, Mary, has a Samuel Gray who married a Margaret A. Biddle, 1 January 1856. Samuel & Margaret named one of their boys 'Squire'. We do not know if Samuel's father is also Squire Gray, but it is a decent bet. To one and all, I just returned from my latest research trip to Bourbon County, Kentucky. I stopped by the Cynthiana Museum, Cynthiana, Kentucky, and talked with Mr. Harold Slade, the museum proprietor. He still has 12 copies of the Perrin book. He is selling the book for $55.00 plus postage. His home phone number is: 606-234-5835. These are the last books remaining in the original order of 250 books. For those unfamiliar with the Perrin book, it is titled "The History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison, and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky" and was originally written in 1882. As the title suggests, it covers the history and genealogy of these counties from the earliest period to 1881. It has literally hundreds of family biographical sketches. This version of the book is reduced and the print is quite small; however, it has a wonderful allname index that provides name and page number for every name in the book. If interested in purchasing the book, you need to call Mr. Slade at the above number or send a check payable to "Harold Slade" for $55.00 at the following address: Harold Slade Route 1, Box 490 Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031 -- Bob Francis 1920A Butner St. Ft.
