Mathers and Potts had the home in earlier years. Taylor Talbert Mathers, grandfather. He may have some idea about the older records since he was there with his father before taking it over himself.I am sure there are records somewhere since Mr Taylor Mathers was a very precise and record person.

Mr Ed Collins and family lived on lower Jackstown road, just before you get to Pleasant Springs pike on left. Oren went to school, got a degree in Pharmacy and was owner operator of the drug store in Richmond while I was at EKU.Mr Ed Collins was a fine gentleman farmer. He was quite old when he died.I believe he had a daughter that lived near him and took care of him and Mrs Collins for a while.I have waited on him many times when he would come into my fathers grocery in Carlisle. Thank you. And I am now finding oodles of Downey material! Vince CTD28@aol.com wrote: > > Nicholas was formed from parts of Bourbon,Clark and Montgomery I believe I > read and maybe part of Mason.
Vince, Glad I put out something useful. Nicholas County was formed from Bourbon and Mason Counties, taking its name on 18 Dec 1799. Nicholas officially became a county on 1 June 1800. I was citing from Nicholas County Kentucky Marraige Records 1799-1855. Some other Downey records appear in that period: John Downey Deborah Hinton 6 Nov 1823 Jacob " Martha Hinton 29 Jul 1830 James " Rebecca Hinton 21 Sep 1826 Samuel " Martha Evans 8 May 1828 At 11:44 AM 3/13/00 -0500, you wrote: >Yes, indeed, they are! Nicholas was formed from parts of Bourbon,Clark and Montgomery I believe I read and maybe part of Mason.
Nicholas Co was formed in 1799 from Bourbon and Mason Counties. Marian
Yes, indeed, they are! That is great. Would you happen to know, offhand (or would anyone reading this), what the counties were from which Nicholas was formed? Thanks! An thanks for that piece of data I did not have -- the exact date. When you mention Nicholas County Records, is that a Marriage Bonds publication? Nicholas County records show an Archibald Downey m: a Nancy Evans 14 August 1823. If an Archibald Downey married a Sarah Cook in the 1790s it should be recorded in one of the counties from which Nicholas was formed in 1800. These two Archies could be father & son. Hi. My wife's family tree has come toppling down the last couple of days or so. I have hit the mother lode. I am delighted to see that Archibald Downey married Sarah Cook in Nicholas Kentucky, abt. 1792-1794. Can anyone verify this, and perhaps even clamp down on the date a bit? I would be interested in the parents of Sarah Cook, also, and I suspect they may have come from Nicholas Kentucky. Archibald came from Pennsylvania, being born abt. 1770. Sarah was born about 1776. Archibald wound up in Virginia, and I am not sure if he was with his wife (I suspect so), but his wife died in Indiana, apparently. Thanks, Vince Summers
