Hi, again. I agree with you in principle, although I've found it pretty hard to come up with Fincastle Co. (founded 1772) and Kentucky Co. (founded 1776) records. As a matter of fact, I have not even been able to find Jefferson Co. deeds that refer to rural land in what is now Nelson Co. The only thing published has been deeds to town lots in Louisville. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lewis imply that there might have been a land record book that has not been found. That is surely true. Bob
On the Metro Louisville- Jefferson County Kentucky Webgen site. Roootsweb for Ky Jefferson Co. "County Court Minute Book Book A, Pages 14, 15 and 16. At a court held for Jefferson County 3 Dec 1781. In appearing to the court that the following persons are entitled by virtue of an Act of Assembly passed May last, to 400 acres of land each. Orders that the County Surveyor lay them off accordingly." There followings the names on pages 14, 15 and 16. This might help someone out there. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 11, 2005 10:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KYNELSON-L] Md and Pa to Kentucky Hi, again. I hope that this can help someone in their searching. I have a book call "Virginia Genealogical Research" by George K Schweitzer, PhD, ScD. Fincastle County, Virginia it says formed in 1772 from Botetourt County, became extinct in 1777 when it was divided into Montgomery and Washington Counties, see these counties for records, especially Montgomery County. Montgomery County, Virginia(same book) County Seat: Christiansburg(24073), formed in 1776 from Fincastle County and later Botetourt and Pulaski Counties see VA Genealogist 18 (1974). Then it lists the records that availible and libaries. I also have the book, "Kentucy Genealogical Research," by George K Schweitzer, PhD, ScD. Jefferson County, KY: formed in 1780 from Kentucy County, VA, couny seat Louisville (40202) see detailed record list in S W Thomas, Filson Club Quarterly 44 (1970)321. Then lists records, libraries, and historical societies. Nelson County, KY: Form 1784/5 from Jefferson County, county seat Bardstown(40004). Then lists the records, libraries and historical society. If you need to know what records, let me know. Hopes this helps, Jean Davis Kitsembel ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 11, 2005 9:35 PM Subject: Re: [KYNELSON-L] Md and Pa to Kentucky > Hi, again.
