    2. I am a little puzzled, Virginia, that Harrodsburg would have been designated a county seat in 1772, since there was nobody there until 1774. And even then, they simply staked some claims and went back east, returning only in 1775. Surely a town was not given a name when there wasn't one and when nobody had been there. Kentucky was under the jurisdiction of Augusta County, Virginia. Fincastle County, Virginia, was organized in 1772 to include all of present-day Kentucky with Harrodsburg designated the county seat.
