A portion of the area which Henderson tried to take control of in Kentucky was already occupied by James Harrod and many other early settlers and when Daniel Boone began laying out land for settlers, the farms were not properly surveyed and nobody knew where their boundaries were. As a result, Virginia sent in public surveyors and finally got the mess straightened out. Infact, James Harrod, George Clark, Benjamin Logan and several other prominent men complained to the Virginia and NC governments resulting in the action against Henderson. Also, the fact that Henderson attempted to establish a new state had a lot to do with him losing his "empire". Read the book "Daniel Boone" by Bakeless for more Boone "bungles". (I realize Daniel Boone has become a great folk hero in Kentucky and other places, but truth is Truth!) G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.
