Francine, re-do the birth of Jesse or Elizabeth-- Jesse b ca 1764; Elizabeth b 1752???? Found a site (but not the one I wanted!!!)-- check out www.bribling,net/nc.htm Has to do with Ice's Ferry, Va (now WVa). Contraversy over which lady was mother of Tecumseh--Mary Bayless (later wife of Andrew Ice) OR Mary Ice, d/o Frederick Ice (Eyck) and his #1 wife Mary/Nelly Galloway. Tecumseh, bca 1768, s/o Peekishinoah, at Chillicothe, a Shawnee "campground" on the river not far from Ice's Ferry, Va. Article says Mary Bayles (Baily, Bayless) would have been too young to be mother of Tecumseh. Prophet was his 1/2 brother. It is a known fact that Tecumseh's mother was a white woman. References is given on this web site. Don't begin to know how true it is BUT I know I found a website about Indian prisoners-- told about Frederick Ice (Eyck) going somewhere, indians raided, killing the mother, & taking son William & at least 2 daus prisoners. I THOUGHT the article said that the women became wives of Indians & did not return??? The above web site says the sisters of Wm were killed????? Have looked for the website that I had found before but can't find it right now. Will look some more. Maybe something would be under Ice's Ferry??? Found this website by running a search for indian prisoners early america-- have not checked out what else has come up on Yahoo as a result of the search. My Bayles family history includes conversations with Tecumseh and Bayles men (brothers or uncle?) the night before the battle resulting in his death. My ggggrandfather David Bayles (1795-1844) was a soldier at Battle of Fallen Timbers. I will look at records to get more. re: searches on yahoo for Battle of Fallen Timbers: resulted after Tecumseh took part in war of retaliation for the death of Chief Cornstalk-1780. This involved "Mad" Anthony Wayne 1794--Tecumseh was there & was but wouldn not sign the tready of Greenville 1796. Article also names other Indian Chief present at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. Wikipedia-Free encyclopedia- online at Yahoo: Battle of Tippicanoe-- 6 Nov 1811- was planned by Harrison (future President) because Tecumseh was traveling in the southern states to recruit more tribes to his alliance. Prophetstown was under the command of The Prophet (younger 1/2 brother of Tecumseh). Fearing the return of Tecumseh with reinforcements- Prophetstown was burned. The Prophet fled with the British. Oct 6, 1813- Battle of the Thames-- Tecumseh was killed. The Prophet founded a village near Kansas City, KS in 1826 & died there 1836.(He being born 1775). All kinds of information on-line!!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 2:17 PM Subject: Re: [KYNELSON-L] Re: Jesse Ice > My Bayles family history includes conversations with Tecumseh and Bayles > men (brothers or uncle?) the night before the battle resulting in his > death.
