    3. Hi Here is my 2 cents worth with interest. I have been working on the House family one of whom married into the Harrod family. I am not certain of all the information but will list what I have found. Perhaps it will help. I have the father of John Harrod Sr as James Harrod/Harwood b: 1668 in Bedfordshire, England. Died in est. 1703-1759 in Piscataway, N.J. His mother Maria Kent b: 1670 Oxford, England, died est. 1702-1764 Piscataway, NJ Modified Register for John HARROD Sr.-382 First Generation 1. John HARROD Sr.-3821 was born 1700 in Hawbridge, Bedfordshire, England. He died 1769 in Ayr Twp, C. PA. Other source has death as 1754 and buried at Little Cove, Cumberland, Pennsylvania.. John married1 (1-MRIN:275) Caroline DOWNEY-5301 about 1727 in England. Caroline died 1732 in Little Cove, PA. They had the following children: 2 M i. Thomas HARROD-7381 was born 1724 in New Jersey. Thomas married1 (MRIN:410) Hannah ELLSWORTH-6621 in 1743. 3 M ii. John HARROD Jr.-3541. It's said the John Harrod (brother of Eleanor) was a best friend of J. V. House John married1 (MRIN:274) Rachel SHEPPARD-5461 on 5 Aug 1758. John also married1 (2-MRIN:289) Mary AMOS-12201. They had the following children: 4 M iii. Thomas Harwood HARROD / -12211. John also married1 (3-MRIN:117) Sarah MOORE-1121, daughter of James MOORE-325 and Frances GAY-751 (MRIN:31), about 1734 in Cumberland, PA. Sarah was born 1700 in Lancaster, PA. She died 1794 in Ten Mile Creek, Washington, PA. Moore Family Cemetery Located in Mercer Co. in the vicinity of Braxton on the Hardin farm Copied June 1972 Thomas House...???/1795 John bleus..or John ....ens?????This stone unreadable???the??22, 1799 (Could this be John V. House?) Almost all the graves in this cemetery are marked with weathered limestone or fieldstone markings. Most of the graves are for Moore and many are for people born in the 1700"s One for T. Moore, Sen. shows he died 25th day of Feb. 1835, aged 80 yrs. Other older ones were Thomas Bingham died July 19, l822, aged 68, Davis Worley died June 7, 1829, aged 68. I give you this information in order to show possible reasons why John House might be buried in a Moore family cemetery. In the first place Sarah Moore married John Harrod in Virginia about 1734. This Sarah Moore Harrod was the mother of James Harrod, founder of Harrodsburg, Nelly or Eleanor Harrod who married John Valentine House and others. Sarah Moore Harrod had a brother named Simeon Moore who died in Mercer Co in 1814. He had a son named Thomas Moore who died in Mercer Co. in 1835. A will recorded in Mercer Co. for this Thomas Moore names daughters Isabella Bingham, and Ann Worley, also a daughter named Polly Harrod who married John Harrod, a distant relative, in 1809. If you can figure all this "mumbo-jumbo" out, you will see that Thomas Moore, Sr. who died 1835, was the nephew of Sarah Moore Harrod and a first cousin of Eleanor House, whose husband John Valentine House......A.R. Ison ,researcher Harrodsburg Historical Society 1987 They had the following children: 5 F iv. Nancy Eleanor HARROD-2591 was born about 1734 in Lancaster, PA. She died about 1800 in KY. The Filson Club History Quarterly Vol. 32-No 2, page 124. Harrod Family Genealogy and the Moore Family by B. B. Swainson. Eleanor Harrod, daughter of John Sr. and Sarah (Moore) Harrod, married John Valentine House, son of John House, who died in Frederick County, MD in 1752, and his wife, Susannah. Eleanor and John House lived in Frederick Co., VA in the area that is now Berkeley Co., West Virginia. Further definite information about this family has not been found, but it is believed that the four men who lived near the Harrods on Ten Mile Creek, now Greene County, PA, were their sons. They all had military service under Col. William Harrod, brother of Eleanor Harrod House. They were Levi, Samuel, John, and Andrew House. Thomas House.... ????-1795 John House...... ????-1799 Almost all the graves in the cemetery are marked with weathered limestone or fieldstone markings. Most of the graves are for Moore and many are for people born in the 1700's. One for T. Moore, Sen. shows he died 25 Feb. 1835, aged 80 years. Others - older - were Thomas Bingham died 19 July 1822, aged 68 years. David Worley died 7 June 1829 (68) This information is given to show possible reasons why John House might be buried in a Moore Family Cemetery. In the first place Sarah Moore married John Harrod in Virginia about 1734. Conclusion: Thomas Moore, Sr., who died 1835, was the nephew of Sarah Moore Harrod and a first cousin of Eleanor Harrod House, wife of John Valentine House. 3. Dolores Kennedy, Thanks! You put in much more than Two Cents Worth but it was on the Harrod families of Pa. rather than the Harrell families of VA.. I haven't found a connection between the Harrod and Harrell families except possibly in ancient times. Thanks anyway, maybe someone else can use that information. G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.
