    2. Fellow Nelson Co Listers.....I've traced my grandmother's Bardstown Talbott family to include a mystery g uncle, Lytleton W Talbott. Saw some unconfirmed hints that he married first in Bardstown area to a Pottinger girl perhaps around Civil War times; don't think they remained together for long, as in 1870 found him in Calif census with new wife from KY, Eleanore _______, but they were in So Calif by then. Learned he'd become an attorney before leaving Bardstown area. By chance any of you Pottinger researchers able to put a name & date to this marriage? TIA for any help. Charlie Murphy near Seattle.

I think both Brothers had daughters named Eleanor Burch.

    1. [KYNELSON-L] Family Reunion Ideas
    2. Dottie Himes
    3. Good Morning Yesterday we were discussing some ideas for Family Reunions. I mentioned a Circle Pedigree Chart that my cousin found and had at the MD-KY reunion which was so helpful for everyone, not only for my cousin, but for everyone to see where their family might be related. It has been suggested that I send the information where to order the chart to this list. I have no connection with ordering this chart, other than I am so pleased with it. It is a plastic covered sheet that you add the names with a permanent marker, or you can print names on labels and attach (see below) Afterwards it can be rolled up if you need to take to a reunion. It has been about a year or so since I ordered this nice circle pedigree chart, and I thought it was $9.95 in fact the first page shows as low as $9.95 but the price is $15.95 so I may have forgotten what I paid for it. It is is something you can have forever, and such an asset if you have a wall to post it. With all that said, here is where you can look at it and decide for yourself Subject: Circle Pedigree Chart where to order Circle Pedigree Chart. Go to www.123genealogy.com click on products The first one is a Genealogy tape The second one is Circle Pedigree..........this is a plastic like large circle pedigree chart where you can put your mother's family at the top and your father's family at the bottom You write on them with permanent marker. This is great if you have a place to hang the entire chart on your wall. This also could make an excellent Christmas gift for your children, however, they may prefer that you do all the work and enter all the names on it first. Recently I also heard of a hint where instead of writing the names on the chart, type the name and the info such as birth date, birthplace death date and place on a Label and then attach them to the circle chart. The typed info is easier to read as it is hard to print that small. If you cannot reach this page, get back to me. Hope this will help some of you Dottie Porter Himes Dottie Himes Lewisport, KY 42351 [email protected] I love my Family, Genealogy is Addictive but Fun: SURNAMES: Heim, Himes, Ahlers, Shroyer, Swadener /Burch, Clements, Hagan, Hutchins, Porter /Hayden, Mulligan,Young, and many more.

    2. Dottie Himes
    3. Attention: Head of this list I hope I am stepping out of line, but this really is Genealogy related. I got in the mail an offer to buy THE YEAR 2005 INTERNATIONAL HIMES FAMILY YEARBOOK AND CD FOR $39.85. BY MORPHCORP LLC, PUBLISHERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL HIMES FAMILY NEWS. I was skeptical as it sounded like the Halberts books in Bath OH that has scamed so many families. I went to the internet and put in MORPHCORP LLC, PUBLISHERS and found a couple letters. It seems from these letters that this is also a scam as someone wrote asking a lot of questions and never got an answer back. The other letter went a little further to advise that the Halberts books publisher is defunct and out of business due to many families complaining of the scam. Their books did list names from phone books but the rest of information was just genealogy info anyone could find at the library and nothing to do with the family name. Hope I am doing right by advising everyone.......but I just thought that manyfamilies might have received the same ad this week with their name substituted in the Yearbook name.. Happy Searching. 1. RE: [KYNELSON-L] Family Reunion Ideas Question
    2. Dottie Himes
    3. This is an idea that I found recently from Ancestry.com I am enjoying the suggestions as I think we all need a little help to make reunions interesting and more fun. Dottie Porter Himes Reunion Ribbons At our 2003 Drobnak Reunion, a cousin volunteered to come up with a plan to quickly identify the different members. She assigned a color to each family. When they arrived a color ribbon was attached to their Reunion T-Shirt so identifying what family they belong too was quick and easy. Of course a large chart was made for reference. It worked so well that in 2006 we plan on using the (new) ribbons again. God bless, Mary Anne Drobnak SECOND IDEA: My cousin found a place to order a round ancestral lineage chart and took to the Md to KY reunion which went back about 12 generations, the top was for my mothers family and the bottom for my fathers family. It was great I have the name tucked away where to order it if anyone is interested. write to me at Dottie Porter Himes [email protected] You write on the chart in permanent pens......but I recently heard that when you have a chart like this type up the name on small labels and put on which make it easier to do and easier to read. Keep the ideas coming. 1. RE: [KYNELSON-L] Family Reunion Question
    2. JTWostal
    3. Dee, One thing that went over big for the younger children at one event was a long table covered with white paper, littered with crayons, coloring books, small (age appropriate) toys, etc. [my daughter purchased many of the items for this table at clearance sales, garage sales, etc.). This table kept the younger children occupied coloring on the white paper table cover and in the coloring books, and playing with the toys, and socializing with each other. As each child left, that child was allowed to take a toy and coloring book home with him/her. At the end of the day, the remaining toys were divided among the remaining younger children. This "Children's table" was a huge success. At another family reunions, they set up one of those room divider that has several panels. This room Divider had four panels (so using front and back of each panel gave 8 surfaces). This reunion was for descendants of an ancestor who had 7 children, so eight surfaces was perfect. On the front of the first panel were photos of the elder ancestors, groups photos of the children, the ancestral home, etc. At the top, above the photos was genealogy and family history information. The next panel contained photos of the eldest child, his wife and children, the next panel was that of the next eldest child, her spouse and children, etc. Each child and that child's family had their own panel. Wedding photos and baby were posted on appropriate panels, too, if available. Also found were little cards with stories of, or memorials to, or tidbits of interesting or humorous information about the people in the photos. Those notes (tall tales?) added by one sibling to another sibling's panel were often the most humorous. Some of my husbands family reunions are held at a "rifle club" or "Schutzenverin". This is a big octagon shaped building used for Weddings, Dances, reunions, etc. Inside this building is an inner area [inner circle], usually used as a dance floor, and an outer area [outer circle], where the tables and chairs usually are at weddings and dances). For their family reunion, though, the tables and chairs are pulled into the center area and all the business and visiting and auctions are held there. The other area, where the tables and chairs were pulled from, is left empty, and the children are allowed to play there. The children are still inside the building and can easily be seen and heard, but not the noise is outside the adult activity area. The people, in the inner circle, can visit, conduct business and auctions, etc, without disturbing the children and without the children disturbing them. The children don't have to go to the outer area, but they seem to do so naturally. They have plenty of room to run, play, giggle and have a great time. One reunion we all got together at Sea World, and another year, that same group got together at Fiesta Texas. Each family paid their own way, of course, but we were all able to get discounts. Everyone did pretty much their own thing, but we kept running into each other, and we did have some specific times established to meet at specific places or shows too. I think everyone enjoyed those two reunions tremendously. There was camaraderie, but there was a lot of freedom to do ones own thing, too. I hope you find something in all of that that might be useful. As a side note: My Kentucky Ancestor just happened to removed himself to, and settle in, the heart of Cajun Country (Southwest Louisiana), so we always have a Cajun band at our reunions. There is nothing boring about a good Cajun band <grin>. "We dance and pass ourselves a good time yes!". And when we have a potluck, the food usually consists of items like Cajun Rice Dressing, Boudin, Cracklins, Gumbo, sweet Potato Crunch with marshmallows, Bread pudding, and if early enough in the spring, crawfish etouffee! Nothing boring about the food either <grin>. -----Original Message----- From: kyfisher [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 13 April, 2005 11:14 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [KYNELSON-L] Family Reunion Question Help ... 3. Help ... I need some of your great suggestions about some fun and interesting things to do at a first time family reunion. The only family reunions that I have attended have been boring and not well organized. Since I will be involved in the planning of this reunion I would like to make it a little different. I am counting on this creative group to help me out !! Thanks Dee
