My notes in ( ) on ZACKQUILL MORGAN. Do not know parents of Zackquill. He MAY very well be a descendant of Morgan Morgan of Exeter Twp, Berks Co, PA. per: www.dorseykiger.com/history/town.html Morgantown, WVa--history: Mentions: Fort Morgan- 1772 Fort Coburn 1770 Fort Dinwiddies - 1772 Fort Burris Fort Kerns in Greenmount area of Morgantown; as did other small forts thorughout the region. Mononalia Co, Va- Oct 11, 1776; 13 counties fromed from it including 3 Pa counties. ZAQUILL MORGAN- 1st settled in the area in 1772 & in 1785 received a charter from the Va Assembly for the establishmane of a town called MORGANTOWN-- present town is a direct result of that Va Charter. (Zaquill Morgan was Capt; served in Lord Dunsmore's War; discharged at Ft Pitt- listed on payroll list of 1775 Ft Pitt along with men who served under him-- 3 being Samuel, Richard & Thomas MARIFIELD--have an alpha list of 1775 Ft Pitt--listed also is John, William & Andrew ICE--all privates. Tree on rootsweb.com gives Zaquill Morgan b 1742 so he may well be the age of FREDERICK ICE or would Frederick Ice be older since 3 of his sons served with Zaquill?????). Forks of Cheat Bapt Ch- north of Stewartstown in 1775. Still used today- 1st church established west of the mountains of Va. Further towards the Cheat River - a settlement grew up and around a ferry established and operated by FREDERICK ICE in 1767. That same year-- Frederick's son ADAM was the first white child born in the Monongahela Valley. ICE'S FERRY was the first authorized ferry in western VA. George Washington crossed there in 1784. Persent bridge on Cheat Lake on WVA 73 marks the location of ICE'S FERRY. Maybe the History of Monongahela Co, Va will give more clues??? Or perhaps Frederick Co since Monongahela Co was formed from it. Mary Y.
Francine, re-do the birth of Jesse or Elizabeth-- Jesse b ca 1764; Elizabeth b 1752???? Found a site (but not the one I wanted!!!)-- check out www.bribling,net/nc.htm Has to do with Ice's Ferry, Va (now WVa). Contraversy over which lady was mother of Tecumseh--Mary Bayless (later wife of Andrew Ice) OR Mary Ice, d/o Frederick Ice (Eyck) and his #1 wife Mary/Nelly Galloway. Tecumseh, bca 1768, s/o Peekishinoah, at Chillicothe, a Shawnee "campground" on the river not far from Ice's Ferry, Va. Article says Mary Bayles (Baily, Bayless) would have been too young to be mother of Tecumseh. Prophet was his 1/2 brother. It is a known fact that Tecumseh's mother was a white woman. References is given on this web site. Don't begin to know how true it is BUT I know I found a website about Indian prisoners-- told about Frederick Ice (Eyck) going somewhere, indians raided, killing the mother, & taking son William & at least 2 daus prisoners. I THOUGHT the article said that the women became wives of Indians & did not return??? The above web site says the sisters of Wm were killed????? Have looked for the website that I had found before but can't find it right now. Will look some more. Maybe something would be under Ice's Ferry??? Found this website by running a search for indian prisoners early america-- have not checked out what else has come up on Yahoo as a result of the search. Dear List, Linda, Jim Pulliam and I have been working on John B. Gough who died in 1839 in Scott County, KY. Our primary goal is to definitively determine the parents of John B. Secondly we want to accurately record his children. The following was found in the 1810 ScottCo, KY census. John B. Gough 1766-1784 1 Male, 1 Female 1794-1800 1 Male 1800-1810 1 Male, 8 females Bef 1765 2 Females Mary Medley Gough had recently died and JB had recently remarried tp Sarah Jenkins Clarvo. The family group above reflects both JB's and Sarah's children. These following male Goughs are buried next to Mary Medley Gough are probably two of the children: 57 George Gough 1798 April 23, 1821 58 Henry Gough 1800 May 20, 1819 In 1830 the following family was recorded: John B. Gough 1 Male 1760-1770 1 Female 1770-1780 1 Male 1800-1810 1 Male and 1 Female 1810-1815 1 Male1815-1820 1 Male 1820-1825 Stephen Gough is buried at St. Francis/St. Pius RCC cemetery close to the other Goughs and is probably one of the younger children in the family: 71 Stephen T. Gough 1818 Dec. 4, 1831 John B's tombstone says he was born in 1767: 145 John B. Gough Feb 29,1767 Feb.19, 1839 (note: 1767 was not a leap year) The two census records indicate that he was born in bet 1760-1766. This is what I have for the family of John B. Dottie & all-- This is an email received personally from "the" Linda Reno of the SMC website concerning Raphael/Ralph Hagan & wife Rebecca Lavielle. As you see her name is given as Deviel but can't help but wonder if it is L-eviel. Currently chasing Lavielle/Levielle/Levell/Leville/Laval. Also has me curious about the LAVELY family because I have also see Levalee. Would not be impossible that relationship is there considering a French pronucation of the name & the many ways it could be spelled-- depending on how it was heard. Yes, Lavaille goes back to Calvert Co, MD--in the 1800 a Rebecca Lavielle in the Cen.--also James & Uriah who apparently stayed in Calvert Co. 1817 John Level m Polly Pipes Washington Co, Ky (no further data) 1820- Joseph Lavielle m Elizbeth Edmondson Jefferson Co, she d/o Wm. This Joseph listed 1830 Cen St Louis Co, MO with males in his household of the age to be brothers rather than sons. Lavielle women marry in St Louis(mgs on line) as late as 1874. 1880 Cen Eugene 42 (b 1818) is a Capt stm ship; his brother Theodore 38 is a clerk, listed as single tho he married in 1865. 1850 Daniel Lavielle & wife Rebecca is listed at Louisville. People of this surname at Louisville as late (maybe later) as 1911 City Directory. 1850 he has 3 children (2 boys & 1 girl) all born MO who is very apparently not his children. 1850 Cen of St Geneieve Co, Mo is a Mary Lavielle 29 b Ky with 2 daus & a son listed in her household, along with George Matingly 33. One of the daus is Olivia--she m as Olivia Augusta 1865 St Louis. (remember this name!!!!). My GGf John Oliver Lavey (Levy) was sent by Bishop Spaulding from Louisville to St Thomas Orphan Asylum. The record (finally found!!) stated: pts dec'd, of French parents. Family tradition: father worked on the river between Louisville & New Orleans; Father died, mother went to take care of his affairs--took sick and died. John's name was Oliver Augusta but changed by the nuns because it wasn't a saint's name. Brother Charles Henry Lavey's CW papers says he was born France & his mother died & the father took the boys to Louisville where he died of cholera in 1849. Henry was 6 in 1852 on entering the orphanage-- Orphanage paper says "entered the seminary". Charles Henry didn't ever marry. Ky Deaths (on line) lists both Charles & Henry Lavey--both dec'd at Louisville. Have not checked death cert. to see who the parents are on both certs.(others to check also--Daniel Lavielle, wife Rebecca, son Hite who is listed in the 1911 City Directory, Laura, widow of Daniel (a younger man); etc, etc.). Still chasing & trying to solve this problem. First may I make a suggestion to this List that the subject does have the interested surname and date of birth and or death and sign your email at the end so that when someone responds, they will know who to respond too. Of cource I am responding to the whole list as this may help someone else too. Attention Tom Nash Re your problem, perhaps I can help. Bob Alvey Do you know who this Eleanor Howard belongs to? or this Robert Hayden? Washington Co Ky Marriage Records 1792-1878, Margaret Clark Kington 20 Mar 1795 Robert Hayden - Eleanor Howard, Baptes Howard Bk 1-8 It's possible she was a daughter of a brother of John Baptist Howard. This is before John Baptist Howard died, and he is the only howard I know of that was a Baptes Howard.
Jerry, I can't help here with any facts that would confirm who are the parents of Eleanor Howard. There is so much conflicting data online and in books. Sister Donnelly in her Hayden book shows that Robert Hayden, son of Basil Hayden and Henrietta Cole (that's who I think this Robert Hayden belongs to) married a Mary Carlin on Feb 1, 1796 in Nelson Co, KY but I have never been able to confirm or find any evidence of that marriage (about 40 people have posted this same data online, most likely all from a direct source or indirect source from Donnelly's book). I did find the information , wills and marriages in Washington Co, KY and it looks like this Robert Hayden married both Eleanor Hayden and Elizabeth Hill but that's certainly not confirmed in any way other than logical deduction from what little information I have found or found by others and told to me. It seems that a Robert Hayden may have married both Eleanor Howard and Elizabeth Hill per Washington Co, KY marriage records and that probably means that Eleanor Howard died before the second marriage to Elizabeth Hill on Feb 21, 1805. In Faye Sea Sanders book "Wash Co, KY Deed Abstracts 1803-188" there is an entry regarding Robert Hayden and his infant heirs "C-327 - 28 Mar 1808 - Indenture between William Rice Sr. and wife Francis, Wash Co of the first part and Sarah, Maria, Absalom and Hilery Hayden, infant heirs of Robert Hayden deceased, late of Wash Co other part for $230 - 230 acres in Wash Co on north side of Hickory Camp Run. (note the listing of 4 chidlren) In the same book , there are three other sales by Robert Hayden when still living to his brother Stanislaus Hayden and one mentions that the sale was made with the expectation that Robert was dying (C-25- - 20 Aug 1806 - Whereas my brother Robert Hayden has sold me, a negro slave, Mary, under an expectation that he will shortly die, I am to take the three children he had by his first wife to raise them as my own ...) Not sure why but I cannot seem to find my copy of Faye Sanders Washington Co wills that contain the year 1806 to see what it says if anything. Looking at both of these above documents makes be believe that Robert Hayden had three children, Ansalom, Sarah and Marie by one wife, Eleanor Howard maybe and Hilery by a second wife, Elizabeth Hill maybe. But as to Eleanor Howard, she mostly likely is descended from the same line as John Baptist Howard but since we seem to know that his daughter Eleanor "Nellie" Howard married Abraham Bray in Nelson Co on Jan 26, 1797, this one is not her but as you say likely a daughter of John Baptist's brother. My records are so sketchy as to these families, I cannot even make a logically based guess.
