Henry Washington Younger (b 1810) & Beersheba Leighton Fristoe were the parents of 13/14 ch--one being Cole Younger (Thomas Cole?? Have never seen Thomas as being his 1st name). Beings the Youngers moved to Mo--there is a Younger Family Assoc. Have seen articles about the Youngers. Henry owned slaves in Bullitt Co. and Cole had a black half sister (documented if you care to check). Rumored for years that Cole was the f/o Myra Maybelle Shirley's dau Rosie "Pearl". Both denied this. Myra Maybelle (aka Belle Starr). Rosie reportidly d/o John Reed & Myra Maybelle. John & Myra had a son Ed, too, who was born in TX. Myra Maybelle m Sam Starr in Ok; lived in the Eufalia area (the same area as my Ramseys/Bouland/Bolins). Since the Ramseys lived in Ark & Ok- hard to know which!!! My daus' GGm Minnie Belle Ramsey Tague Bollin d Montrose, Effingham, IL (don't ask me how she got there from Ark!!!). Minnie Belle--named Belle for Belle Starr. Belle & Elizabeth Bouland/Bolin Ramsey were supposidly friends. The Ramsey Family were at the same barn raising when Belle shot Sam in the foot during an argument with him. Was told this years ago by Grandma Minnie but thought she was "telling a tall tale"!! Was very surprised when I read an article about Belle Starr in a magazine (IE: True West, Old West, West; Frontier Times but don't remember which) which related the incident as well as other things. Grandma Minnie could remember riding a pinto pony across the Indian Reservation in Ok & her grandfather couldn't speak a word of English. Her parents were married at Sugarloaf, Cherokee Nation, OK & are buried at Eufalia. Grandma Minnie's dau Lela Tague m Harry Yoder-- I married their son. Isn't genealogy great!!! You find out all kinds of things!!! To David Lee - Sorry I don't have anything on Sarah Sullivan Purcell with me. I will get back to you later. By memory I can tell you there was a Henry Younger in Bullitt County and Sarah and Charles must have run off to Indiana to get married in Indiana. Neither lived there. So we SUPPOSE that the most likely connection with this couple and the Purcells was with Thomas Purcell and wife Elenor Sullivan. A younger descendant told me that she said her middle name was Sullivan. Daniel Sullivan who would have been her uncle was very well known in his day though some might say as much infamous as famous. He was an intrepter for the Delware Indians, spy for the Americans, considered a traditor because he helped the Delware Indians, etc. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. Like so many of us, she was in contact with Bob, too-- only learned recently of Bob's passing. Takes a while for bad news to spread, I guess. I should have known that Bob was also in contact with the Marylanders!!!! Or you could send to [email protected] . Correspond with Linda all the time & she is as great of help as Bob was. I am seeking any information on a John CARTER, mentioned in Volume 4, page 148, and Volume 5 page 357, in "Littell's Laws of Kentucky". This supposedly has to do with a Murder of a James Miller, committed by John CARTER....Any help would be greatly appreciated... Would like a faxed copy, or a synopsis of the information. Thanks, Dick Carter [email protected] Dick Carter [email protected]
We just arrived home after 2,019 miles to Breckenridge, TX for our granddaughters high school graduation last weekend. I downloaded my emails and noticed subject Robert Moore and looked at it. Like everyone, I was deeply grieved to find out that Bob had passed away and tears ran down my face. He was such a good and kind man, a wonderful Genealogist that went out of his way to help everyone with ancestors in Virginia and Kentucky. We, too, had never met, but I was hoping for that opportunity this summer as he wanted to get over to Madisonville, KY to look for some more information on the Porter family. We met on the internet over a year ago when I sent in an inquiry about my ggg grandfather Philip Porter b abt 1754 in VA and wife Nancy Ann Brent from Virginia that migrated to Shelby Co, KY, and later to Spencer Co, KY. Some of Philip Porter's children lived around Bloomfield and one was written up in his marvelous book about Bloomfield, KY which I am so happy to have. He helped me immensely with new information on the Duncan, Peyton, Russell, and Porter families that gave me so many clues to maybe one day to be able to find Philip's parents in Virginia. We also found out with sharing that we were cousins through the Vowels and Hutchins families. Bob told me about his struggle with cancer, and my prayers went out for him daily. He was such a positive man, and felt that he had beaten the cancer, never complained, and never stopped helping everyone with the vast knowledge that he had about VA, and KY and all the families. It was just a few weeks ago, that I got his last email verifying some information that I had sent on the Porter Family. My sincere sympathy goes to his wife, Ann, which he talked about lovingly. We will all miss Bob Moore, each in our own way, and miss all his emails with a history lesson in many of them. May he rest in peace. I've just read about Bob's passing and am sitting here with a heavy chest and tears in my eyes. I'd only personally met him less than a month ago at the NCGR meeting where he so kindly brought me an original copy of the Kentucky Genealogist with pictures of the Troutman family that was about my husband's great-grandfather's birthday gathering. I'd corresponded to him many times via email and grown to have him a part of my genealogy family even though we weren't related at all. I hope later his wife is able to access all the email messages of the wonderful comments. He will greatly be missed! Rhonda Wathen, Bardstown, KY
What a sad day. He was such a kind, patient human being, his generous sharing of information will always be the cornerstone of my Kentucky research. I am so pleased to have his recent book. He will long be remembered and sorely missed. Lois Weinman Wauwatosa, WI
OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY to the MOORE FAMILY!
DeAnna: So sorry to hear about Bob Moore. He gave me so much information on my Davis families in Nelson County and I loved his book. I was hoping to get a chance to meet him in the future. He will be missed so much by all of us. He was one of a special kind of person. Pat is in my prayers. Jean Davis Kitsembel
