I worked with a Bernard "Bernie" Hagan who is from Bardstown and went to school there. He retired around 2000 at age 62. He was living in Louisville at the time. As to my knowledge he was single and had never married. He always was proud of being from Bardstown and of his "Irish" ancestry.
Is there any members of the list who attended St. Joseph Prep in Bardstown during years of 1948-1960 era that has any photo's they would like to donate to me for potential use in an upcoming book? I attended starting in year 1949 at age 12 long before I had any camera in my possession. Brother Gerald Edward was my mentor and leader in those days. Photos of the campus then and now would be greatly appreciated from anyone. Other living graduates still live in Louisville and around the USA. JOHN in CA

Try the Ky. Archives in Frankfort. I found murder records of my great great grandmother. The court records and prison sentence for her husband are housed there. Cheers, Laura
Would anyone have records of, or suggestion where I can find record of a murder, and or trial, and final disposition of a murder of James Miller, by a John CARTER in 1823... Supposedly happened Shelby Co., Ky., or nearby...Thanks Dick Carter [email protected]

Charlie, In the book "Abstracts of Nelson Co., Ky Newspapers Sept, 1807 to Sept 1890", Carolyn Wimp, 2001, ATHS--- There is a gap in the papers from Aug 7, 1858 through Oct 6, 1860. There isn't any thing about the event you are mentioning. Thomas H. Talbott was Clerk of the Circuit Court in 1857. Could not find a Cem listing for him in the Cem Books of Nelson Co. You might try a search of the Cems in the Chattanooga area on yahoo or google & come up with a name of the cem. OR try the rootsweb site for the Co in which Chattanooga is located--maybe there is Cem listings along with a transcription of stones. You never know what you can find until you search for it. Sorry I can't help more!!! Nelson Co listers: Researching my Talbott family from Bardstown area & noted the death of John C Talbott 1859 at the hands of a Thomas Hinds Slaughter; couple years later, apparently, son of John C Talbott, Dan Talbott, killed this T H Slaughter. He was acquitted upon trial for that killing & later joined Confederacy (Naval branch) where he contracted yellow fever. He died of that disease & is buried in Confederate cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. (A) I'm seeking date of death of Thomas H Slaughter in order to explore available period newspapers for futher details/information about the trial, etc. (B) By chance anyone know how to learn excact burial location of this Dan Talbott in this Chattanooga cemetery? Can anyone suggest avenues for further research of these issues? Thanks in advance for ideas. Charlie Murphy near Seattle.
I am looking for information about my great great great grandfather Michael Whalen, whose wife (I think) was Catherine Welch. They lived in Nelson County during the early 1800's and then moved to Edgar County, Illinois. They had a number of children, including my great great grandfather Patrick Whalen. I am fairly certain the family came from Ireland but I don't know when or from what area. Any additional information would be truly appreciated. Pat Smart
Hello Anne, I would llike to add the following please: For Wilson Flick and Rebecca Shaw, I have the child Luellen born Aug 1854 as a girl. Also I would like to add for Wilson Flick the following citation from Bullitt County Will Book C, page 341, on the 29 February 1844 "...rented the farm of deceased {George Green} for the year of 1844 to Wilson Flick for the sum of fifteen dollars and took his note with Elias Hatfield, Coleman Bridwell and Wm S. Shaw security payable 29 February 1845." Filed 18 March 1844. This seems important in the question about Wilson Flick/Flake and Wilson Hatfield being the same person. Wilson Flick/Flake married Rebecca Shaw, daughter of William Shaw, on 15 February 1844. And here we have William Shaw standing security for Wilson Flick in February of that same year. I also have the death certificate of George Washington Hatfield (1846-1922) which lists his mother as Rebecca Shaw and his father as Max Hatfield. The informant was George Hatfield's son-in-law Alex Riley. Do you know if there is anyone in Bullitt county who is willing to do a lookup at the courthouse in Shepherdsville in the General Index of the Will Books for the entry for Wilson Flakes, (app), Book G page 502?
