Hello, friends. As long as we're discussing Griffiths, I'll add my Griffiths to the conversation. If my research is correct, one of my gg grandfathers is James Griffith, born abt 1815 in Muhlenberg County. Wanda, could we be talking about the same James Griffith -- or perhaps a father or son? I've become tangled in my tracking, since there are several James Griffiths in the county in the first half of the 1800s. Apparently, "my" James was a coal miner who married Mary Williams (born in Muhlenberg County abt 1832) on 8 Apr 1853. Because of the age difference, it's possible that Mary was James' second wife. The census records for James and Mary show four children in the household: Jane, Eliza, a boy (name unknown) and Rebecca (born 24 Dec. 1866, died 10 Sep 1942). Rebecca married William T. DAVIS (born 16 Dec. 1857 in Tennessee) on 26 Sep 1886 at Paradise in Muhlenberg County. They had seven children: Arthur and Celie (twins born and died 17 Apr 1889) Raymond Oscar (called "Shine") born 8 Jun 1892 died 7 Aug 1969 Chloe Darling born 20 May 1894 died 11 Jul 1971 (my grandmother -- married Oscar P. Nelson born 2 Sep 1891 died 31 Jul 1962)) Truman "Pat" born 17 Mar 1896 Bertha born 24 Oct 1898 Mary Belle born and died 7 Oct 1904 I would very much like to hear from anyone who is connected to any of these people. I would especially like to know more about the ancestors of James Griffith and Mary Williams.
