According to Paul Camplin in "A New History of Muhlenberg County" published in 1984, in the chapter on Martwick, page 77: A small theater, usually referred to as the "opera house" (traveling troupes performed there in the beginning), was built at the back of the company store. It was managed by Albert (Ab) Mercer, the affable mine superintendent, and Guy Martin Sr. Garland Gary sold tickets and in later years Agnes Gary, Garland's daughter, pumped the player piano which accompanied the slient moves then shown.
