I sent an e-mail to Judy Purcell in response to her kind offer to look up information in the index of newspaper articles written by Edward Manley in the1950s about families in Muhlenberg Co. After doing so it occured to me that I haven't bugged anyone on the list for a while about the information I'm looking for, so I'm sending this off to you all..... In chasing my ancestors I am tracing a maize of families in Muhlenberg County. I have pinned down most of them during the time they were in Muhlenberg County, but would love it if there were any information on their origins.... My mother was Louella TOOLEY Miller Clements, Feb. 18, 1908 Stringtown - June 28, 1994, Phoenix, AZ. Her parents were Charles Minton TOOLEY, Dec. 24, 1884 Muh. -March 17, 1959 Muh.Co., KY, and Emma Jane WARMAN, March 13, 1890 Clarksville, TN - March 21,1926 Stringtown. The WARMANs are one of my mysteries. My grandmother Emma was born in Tennessee, and I have traced the family of her mother -- Pherbia Armpster HIGHERS -- back quite a ways in TN. However, Emma's father, Thomas Marion WARMAN, July 16,1852 (TN?) - Dec. 24,1924, Muh., lived in Smith County, TN, before coming to Stringtown, but I now believe that it is possible that before that the WARMANs may have come from Kentucky -- though probably not Muhlenberg County -- to TN before "returning" to KY. Any information you can find about the surname WARMAN would be greatly appreciated. On my grandfather's side, Mint's parents were Alvis S. TOOLEY, Oct. 26, 1857 KY - Mar. 10, 1922 Stringtown, and Matilda Carline GREENWOOD, c1860 KY Muh. - Jan. 6, 1917 Muh., KY. Alvis was the son of Hall S. TOOLEY, c1821 Logan Co KY - ?? Muh??, and Lawraney Susana ADCOCK, c1823 TN - Apr/May 1898 Muh. I am trying to verify the parentage of Lawraney -- we have Ancel ADCOCK b.1797 SC and Elizabeth ?, b. 1801 NC. There is also a real mystery about who Hall's parents were --- John TOOLEY and Elizabeth SHELTON or James TOOLEY and Sarah JOHNSON, but that is unlikely to be decided by Muhlenberg County information. Nonetheless, any further information on ADCOCKs or TOOLEYs would also be appreciated. Matilda Carline GREENWOOD was the daughter of William Henry GREENWOOD, c1839 VA or NC - ?? Muh?? and Susan L. DUKES, Nov. 17, 1841 Muh. - 1900 Muh. Susan was the daughter of Elijah DUKES and Edna MOORE, and their families are well documented in Muhlenberg County. However, any information on William's death date would be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to learn anything I can about the family of my mother's first husband, Garrett Ford MILLER, c. 1904 Muh?? - c1940 Phoenix. I had much more information on Garrrett and his family before most of our house -- including all of my family history that I had collected since I was 10 years old -- was washed away in a flood here in northern Nevada in January 1997. (I haven't been back to Phoenix since the flood -- at least there I could read his birth and death dates off his tombstone!) I was fortunate that a rancher found much of my mother's history 4 miles downriver, but most of Garrett's information was absent. I have been in touch with some of his remaining family in Muhlenberg County, but they have no more information than I have. Garrett's parents were Thomas Miller and Maggie Lucas, and his siblings were sister Allie and brothers Nova ("Novie"), Ophus Dec 27, 1902 - Aug. 1981, and Ray. Of course, any other "interesting" information about these families would be greatly appreciated.
