Does anyone know how the "weaving house" at Powderly got started? It was always vaguely suggested in my family that some kind of "missionaries" or something (maybe from the government??) came to Muhlenberg and taught the women how to weave - I assume so the women could have some extra income or at least make rag rugs for themselves. BTW, the weaving house was directly across the street from my great-grandmother's house (Emma Lee Evitts, who was a lunchroom lady at Muhlenberg Central for years). Mary K.
