Does anyone know if the Dennis house, on Russellville Road, 2 miles s of Greenville is still standing? I will be in the county in about two weeks helping my daughter in law find her roots there-family names of Cornett and Evitts. Any help with the search would be appreciated. Thanks Irma
Hi, I'm new to this list. I'm seeking information about a "GREENVILLE FEMALE COLLEGE" and "GREENVILLE COLLEGE FOR YOUNG MEN" in Greenville, Kentucky in 1888-89. I have two letters written by an ancestor in 1888 and 1889 on stationery that has those two colleges names printed on it, followed by "Two separate colleges under same management. Board of Young Ladies $2.50; Young Gentlemen $2.00 per week. Rev. E.W. Hall, A.M., President. Greenville, Ky." The letters I have were written by Edwin W. Hall, the president of the colleges. Has anyone heard of these colleges? I assume there is no college in Greenville nowadays? Thanks, Kelly
Hi Kam! Thanks for the note! Yes, I have obtained marriage bonds before. That's what I asked the Muhlenberg County Clerk for and she told me they didn't have any. She said all they had was the copy from the Marriage Register. Are the Muhlenberg County Marriage Bonds lost for 1819, or have I been misinformed? Sorry for the confusion. I guess my original query to the mail list was not very clear. Thanks for any advice! Debbie KAMAMA3@aol.com wrote: > Debbie > Marriage bonds . Today you have certificates then they were bonds. The early marriage records for Muhlenberg County disappeared sometime in the 1930's from what I was told on a trip down there a couple months back. Kim Want to get paid to surf the web? Debbie Marriage bonds . Today you have certificates then they were bonds. I have several in my mail if you would send me an Email at Kamama3@aol.com I will forward you one to view . Kam
I just received a copy of my kin's marriage record (Jacob MATTHEWS to Katherine SHULL, 2 Sept. 1819). All I received was a copy of a chronological index. The courthouse tells me there is no other record. Is this true? Are there no certificates or bonds either in the courthouse or in the historical society? Sometimes there is an organized room in a courthouse where such records might exist. If there is, I would drive down and look through those records. Does anyone know? Thanks for any advice! Debbie
I can only access the marriages half the time and if I am not breaking any laws I would be glad to post them to the list, or send them to any individual who needs them. Mr. Summer, The oldest Walker I know of in my family is Sidney who died in the civil war, and while in Muhlenberg I was tromping cemeteries and taking photos of old stones of long gone relatives. I was at Reynolds cemetery where Joseph and Lucy J. Mitchell were buried. I ran across your Thomas and Saluda, since I dont know who Sidney's parents or grandparents are I snapped a shot of Thomas and Saluda's stones. Would you like me to email you a photo? Hello Folks, This is my first post to the list. I have recently discovered that Muhlenburg Co. is where my ggg-grandfather went when he left Smith Co., Tennessee. He, Thomas Walker, his wife Saluda and a daughter, also named Saluda are in the 1850 census for the county. His daughter Saluda later married William B. Pannell. Thomas and his wife are buried in Reynolds Cemetery. Saluda's marriage to Wm. Pannell was about 1857. William died before the 1880 census. Can someone help me with a marriage date and death date for William? They produced three sons, James P., Thomas B., and Frank B. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. The county site says that marriages from 1799 through 1901 are available but I can't seem to locate them on the site or in the archives. Any clues? Don Summers Southport, FL

In the book "Stringtown Reunion" by Bobby J. Davis, 1998, there is a newspaper clipping on page 79 of "A 1920s Mothers' Day Celebration." It was taken at Richardson Chapel in Stringtown, Muhlenberg County, KY. It shows a groups of young women all dressed in white. One of them is my mother, Louella Tooley (Clements). It is hard to read the caption, but it seems to say that the original picture is the property of Mrs. Lorene Fleet (?), Central City, KY. I would love to have a copy of this picture, since it is one of the few pictures I have seen of my mother as a girl. If you have a copy of this picture, or know who does, I would appreciate it if you would contact me. I would also be happy to share any information I have. I am looking for a picture taken in 1913 at the birthday dinner for Joseph Clay Dukes ("Big Pap") and Mary Elizabeth McClelland Dukes ("Big Ma"), somewhere in Muhlenberg County, KY. There is a group picture taken at that party -- which I have a poor-quality copy of -- that has the only picture that I've ever see of my great grandfather, Alvis Tooley, and my great grandmother Matilda Carline "Aunt Sis" Greenwood Tooley. It also has in it relatives with surnames of Lacefield, Wells, Hill, Carter, Parker, Spicer (friends), Allison, and Wilcox. If you have any other pictures that have Alvis and Aunt Sis Tooley (or have ever seen any) please let me know.... I also have seen a note somewhere that the original of this picture was the property of Jack Divine. If you have family in this picture and don't have a copy, I'm happy to share my version. People are legible, but it has some damage, and I'd like better resolution so I could make small pictures of my great grandparents from it. Hello - just a quick introduction of myself as a new subscriber to this list, my name is Sharon. My Great Grandmother was Ellen Hinkle and she married Richard S. Shockley 1856 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. In the 1850 Muhlenberg census, Ellen Hinkle is listed 14 years of age (b.abt. 1836 in KY.) living with Thomas Whitmer 24 farmer b. KY., Susan Whitmer 24, b.TN., Susan V.Whitmer 3/12, b. KY. I can't seem to find any information on her. I believe she connects to the Nall, Whitmer, Crumpacker and Patterson families. In the same 1850 census Mariah Hinkle 16, b. in TN.was living with Jacob Crumpacker 71, farmer b.Maryland, Mary Crumpacker 58, b.VA., Martha L. Crumpacker 20, b. TN. William Hinkle 28 b. TN. was living with James W. Nall family. Mariah Hinkle is believed to have married John P. Shockley, brother to Richard Shockley. John disappeared during the civil war. Mariah and John had a son Francis Marion Shockley . In the McLean 1870 census Francis Marion Shockley is living with Francis M. Patterson and his family. I'm sorry for such a long post, but thought it might help to explain why I think they all connect. Can anyone help? Sharon
