There is a connection somewhere. Jacob and Ann BASS had many children besides Winifred. Winney's brother, Theophilus BASS, is my ancestor, being the father of Mary "Polly" BASS who married John EDWARDS. Theophilus BASS married Rachel VINSON, and these families were in Franklin County, NC at the time Jacob BASS's will was probated in 1795. As you probably know, your Samuel DUKES signed off then as receiving from Theophilus BASS his wife's part of Jacob BASS's estate. > My known Edwards are Martha C. Edwards (from Christian County KY) > William Edwards b. ca 1830 who married Mariah Emolyne Dukes ca 1850. > William Henry Edwards who married Malissie Ann Wright (she was born Jan 22 > 1848 and died Sept 1894. > And Sarah Edwards b. ca 1798 m Jan 6 1831 in Muhlenberg County Kentucky to > Ezekiel Moore, son of John Moore and Mary Hanks. I have no record of any of the above. > And last but not least James Marion Edwards b ca 1845 m 1867 in Muhlenberg > County Ky to Malvina Duke Walker widow of Sidney Walker my biggest dead end. I have a James M. EDWARDS, born 1836, TN, but he married Harriet E. _______ about 1859. This James appears with his parents, James P. EDWARDS and Lovy HENRY, on the 1850 census of Muhlenberg County, Ky. By 1860 census, James M. and Harriet E. EDWARDS are living in Williamson County, Illinois. As you probably know, it has long been thought that there were two distinct EDWARDS families in Muhlenberg County in the 1800s. I believe the "other" line has an on-line site. Have you found your kin there? The common thread in the names you gave me of BASS, DUKES and VINSON, make me think that there may be a connection between the two lines further back. If I'm not mistaken, the "other" EDWARDS line was also in Wilson County, Tennessee in the early 1800s with my line, but I have never found a connection there. They were living in opposite ends of the county. Does any of this help? Debbie

    3. Tamara, Would it be ok to contact you off list in about a week? BETTY, The old marriage certificates dissapeared in 1930 and havent been seen since is what I was told when last in Muhlenberg. There was a list of them at the court house, handwritten that someone did years ago that was I believe taken from the register. I have never checked but wondered if it was at a time when a different court house was being built or something similar. DEBBIE, I have an emergency trip out of town and I will probably be gone most of the week but wanted to contact you. I sent this to your email address but it sent me a notice that it had not been delivered for 4 hours so I am putting it on here. I'm not really sure how they all fit together but here goes some of what I have: Jacob Bass who died in 1792 and his wife Ann who died about the same time had a daughter Winifred (Winney) born ca 1755 d ca 1839 in Muhlenberg county Ky was married to Samuel Dukes b. ca 1745 in Edgecomb N.C. d. ca 1821 in Muhlenberg County Kentucky. Samuel and Winney raised Sam's sisters bastard children Elizabeth born ca. 1789 married February. 9 1809 to Solomon Groves and William born Ca. 1790 and died 1821 Found 2 death dates on Samuel 4-13-1821 and 5-25-1821 Samuel was awarded these children February 8 1779 in a Bute County NC court. They were 5 and 3 at the time. I know that we are also related to Vinson (Vincent) also but havent traced ours to N.C. only to VA, the first one of those I know of is Charles b ca 1740 Franklin County VA died Oct 1802 and his Wife Susannah. My known Edwards are Martha C. Edwards (from Christian County KY) William Edwards b. ca 1830 who married Mariah Emolyne Dukes ca 1850. William Henry Edwards who married Malissie Ann Wright (she was born Jan 22 1848 and died Sept 1894. And Sarah Edwards b. ca 1798 m Jan 6 1831 in Muhlenberg County Kentucky to Ezekiel Moore, son of John Moore and Mary Hanks. And last but not least James Marion Edwards b ca 1845 m 1867 in Muhlenberg County Ky to Malvina Duke Walker widow of Sidney Walker my biggest dead end. Does any of this hit any nerves? Kim

    2. Hello Kim! Were your BASS and DUKES in Wilson County, Tennessee (1800-1830) and Franklin County, NC (pre-1800) before they came to Muhlenberg? My John EDWARDS was living on the Pond River 1835-1855 with DUKEs all around him on the 1850 census. John EDWARDS' first wife was Polly BASS, daughter of Theophilus BASS & Rachel VINSON. The DUKEs married into the BASS family in NC. If you think there might be a connection, I would be happy to trade information.
